Congratulations!!! You have plenty of time to read up on different brands so don't get overwhelmed. I love AIOs! This year several great options have releasesd: Thirsties Duo AIO, Ones&Twos, Bummis/Tots Bots, Swaddlebees Simplex, BumGenius Freetime... As you read you will discover that the newborn stage generally requires a non-one sized AIO. Fitteds are my preference for newborns because of the containment and absorbency factor. Take your time and learn more before you buy your first diapers.

I don't have a lot on FB because they pretty much speak for themselves. Good, solid, well known brand. The posts I do have explain well the different aspects of the diaper. I really like FB perfect fit. Besides Rumparooz at night, FB perfect fit is the only pocket I reach for.

Hi Autumn, my husband and I just found out that we are pregnant. We are so excited! I have known for a while that I want to cloth diaper....but now that the time has come, choosing a diaper seems pretty daunting. Bum Genius is what I’m leaning toward (honestly because that's the first CD I read about). I know I want to go with an AIO...but that's about all I know. Any suggestions for first time parents? Also, I’ve noticed that you don't have much about fuzzybuns on your site. is there a reason for that?

I have been reading your blog for a while and just have a few quick questions. I am expecting our first this summer and plan to buy bum genius organic aios. Can I add an insert or doubler to these diapers for night time use or do I have to purchase a specific night time diaper? Also, are essential oils safe to use in washing diapers, in wipes solutions, and on baby for cloth diapers?

Thanks!

Hi Autumn! Thanks for your blog. I've looked all over your site and haven't found anything too recent on the most absorbent types of inserts/doublers. My son is 1 1/2 and has been drinking a lot lately. He uses pocket diapers with two microfiber inserts (so I think 6 layers of microfiber) and soaks through these in an hour! He's got rashes on his thighs and stomach where the wetness is constantly rubbing him. So, needless to say, I'm desperate for some new inserts that are thinner so I can add more layers and/or are more absorbent. Any advice would be very helpful! Thanks.

I guess you would have to define "after a time" and even then it would depend on the overall composition of the diaper. Some wear out faster than others and in different ways. Regardless, you still save money using cloth diapers even if you have to replace them after 18m.

Flip is a cover and the prefolds are the diaper that goes inside. They recommend 6 because as some get dirty or smelly you'll always have a couple on hand.

I'm looking at registering for either the bumgenius 4.0 or the flip diapers. I don't understand why bumgenius suggests getting 24 diapers while flip suggests only 6 covers with the 24 prefolds. It seems to me that they are similar in design and use, so why the difference in how many they each suggest? Thanks for your wisdom!
