Yay for being in your new home!

Thanks for the heads up on the GAD Windpro... One I was tempted to try but now probably won't! Diapers- or even covers- that don't rinse well are BAD NEWS!

There are many cloth diaper safe fabric softeners on the market so if you are scared don't be ;) http://allaboutclothdiapers.com/fabric-softener-cloth-diapers/

As far as the hard water, I know it isn't super hard as in NJ but still hard enough for me to notice. I have only washed one time since living here so any rash/buildup issues are from the previous house. We will do some experimenting with Calgon and or Borax if needed.

Hi Autumn,
Been there, done that, minus 2 kids, 1 dog,and 1 cat. Although we had 2 rabbits LOL We closed on our new house when I was just 3 weeks from my due date. My youngest is now 15 months but I still remember how stressful of a time it was. Our new home has what you had- laundry right off the kitchen- so spoiled! I like your idea of separating pockets from fitteds, not just to be able to use a softener (I don't) but I noticed that if you wash only pockets together, then the fleece stays buttery soft. I have lots of fitteds though, and prefer them, so my solution was to sell off/trade my pockets. Hard water isn't so bad, you can install a softening system which would be around $1000 (pricey but worth it- where I am in NJ it's the seller's responsibility to make sure the water passes an inspection, so the sellers of our house had to have the softening system installed before the closing) you can also use half the recommended amt. of Calgon in the load when you notice buildup. I think this helps...
Good luck in your new home, can't wait to hear about the new baby's arrival!

we have hot water, and we had the stinkies for a while too. i changed my wash routine to: 1. rinse in cold (or just do a cold wash with no detergent or anything) 2. wash in hot with roughly a cup of baking soda and vinegar in the softener dispenser and then a hot wash with nothing. i washed all my diapers together, they were all in the same diaper pail and i never had any smells again! I tried different detergents several times and either Sofie would get a rash or eventually they would smell. this routine is the ONLY one that ever worked for me. :)

Hang in there, Autumn, your routine will all fall in to place before you know it. I just moved from Georgia to West Virginia exactly 1 month ago and my biggest hurdle was the water freezing in my laundry room during the first week. (not a problem I was accustomed to in the south) I was almost fresh out of clean diapers at the onset of this incident and ended up pulling out all of my "not so favorite" diapers as backups! Best of luck with your move.

Wow moving while in the 3rd trimester ... you are one tough cookie! I've lived with hard water for years now and it sure does throw a curve ball in laundry & general washing routines. If you have a lot of calcium in your water that could be the culprit with your daughter's skin irritations & the stinky diapers ... it may not be the GAD windpro fleece dipes after all! There are commercial water softening agents available but I'm not sure what effect they would have on your dipes. The 2 pail method sounds brilliant ... but only if you have 2 washer/dryers. Just using the occasional dryer sheet for our clothing was enough to coat my dryer, and then my prized pocket diapers :( Now I make sure I hang my covers & pockets and only put my prefolds, insets & fitteds in the dryer. Still too scared to go anywhere near the fabric softner or dryer sheets though. Anyway, happy housewarming and best wishes for the safe arrival of baby #4. Do you know the gender yet? Love your stash & your blog!
