I've been using prefolds secured with a snappi and a cover successfully for over a year. My little guy just started walking and now the snappi is coming undone inside the cover. We are using a size 2 snappi and GMD wide baby prefolds. (He's on the slim side, 20 lbs and 31" tall.)

Am I doing something wrong? Is it because he's walking? Do I need to size up to brown edge GMDs? Do boingos work better? Any advice would be appreciated.

Has anyone done this that can give some guidance? I am not going down without a fight in this whole repelling battle! So, I thought about cutting the "pocket" part out of all my pocket diapers, thus, making them simply covers for prefolds which is essentially my preferred diapering method anyways. (I am ordering new prefolds as well). Has anyone else ever done this? It appears it would be relatively simple but I'm just wanting to make sure there is not some element at hand that I hadn't thought of that would make it not work.

I had posted a week or so ago about having horrid repelling issues with my pocket diapers after stupidly washing my flannel liners with them after using a yeast diaper cream. I have stripped and stripped and stripped to no avail. I scrubbed Dawn into them, poured boiling water over them AND bleached....and then did about 10 rinses. Results? Minimal. They still are not useable. To top it all off I diapered my 2 year old dd last night and she looked fine, this morning I went to change her and she has a wretched yeast rash! She's not on antibiotics or anything so I'm assuming it's still in the diapers. I used almost an entire bottle of GFS extract so I just don't understand how that can be! I'm sure my water bill from this whole stripping ordeal is going to be horrendous....I'm just ready to throw them all away and go back to disposables (an eco-friendly as possible one). I started cloth diapering for ecological, economical and healthy for my baby's bums reasons...but I find I'm wasting massive amounts of water which blows the eco factor, I'm gonna have a tremendous water bill not to mention I'm gonna have to buy sposies until I can figure out how to get the yeast out so there goes the economical factor and my babies getting yeast rashes everytime I cloth diaper them certainly isn't healthy for their bottoms! I have loved cloth diapering up to this point so I am super disappointed. Any suggestions that I haven't tried???

Hello Everyone! Our top loading washing machine recently bit the dust. When shopping for a new machine, we wound up purchasing a GE front loader, high efficiency machine. We simply were not able to find a traditional top loading machine with the other specifications that we needed it to have. Our son has been in disposables since the old washer has been broken, and also because of some fitting issues with the one size fitted diapers. I think that he is no longer between sizes, so I can get him back into cloth diapers now. My issue, now, is how to get the diapers clean in the new machine. I have heard horror stories online about the high efficiency machines and cloth diapering. Does anyone have any tips. I am also interested in knowing how to strip the diapers in this kind of machine. I did the Dawn dish detergent mediated strip a couple of times in my old washer. I don't know if I can use this in the high efficiency machine without damaging it.

I've been cloth diapering for over a year now and have never had repelling issues of any sort. I strip them periodically and actually did so just last week. This morning I put a freshly laundered pocket diaper on my 2 year old daughter and within a few minutes noticed a pool of fluid at her feet,,,,it was pee! At first I thought perhaps I had left a gap in the legs or something of that nature, but then when I took the diaper off there was still pee pooled in it. I poured that out in the toilet and the diaper was still 100% dry....it's like it's been Scotch-guarded or something :( There are only 2 things that have been relatively different prior to our last wash. 1) My youngest daughter who is 6 mths old has had a relentless yeast rash so we've been using a yeast cream as well as a zinc oxide ointment over top of that per dr. instructions to keep the yeast cream from rubbing off. I have been using flannel liners inside the diapers to protect them. And 2) I used grapefruit seed extract in my last wash to kill yeast spores. So, I'm wondering what has caused this issue as I know it's one of those things because it just happened BAM overnight! I am questioning the fact that I washed my flannel liners along with the diapers and that perhaps some of the diaper cream residue redeposited on my diapers???? Any suggestions? And should I NOT wash the liners with my diapers?

Hi Guys,

Becoming a mom does not mean you have to become dowdy, unfashionable and old-fashioned. If the idea of wearing a traditional diaper bag gives you the willies, there are plenty of alternatives that you can use instead. Although your baby might not agree in another 10 years, you are still cool and fashionable now and can have the diaper bag to prove it.

Large Purse:-

Instead of purchasing a bag made specifically for moms with babies, buy any bag that catches your eye. The best material for a diaper bag is something washable or water resistant so that it doesn't collect stains, so avoid delicate materials, such as suede.Accessorize the inside of the bag yourself to make it equipped for your baby's needs. Purchase a small, travel-size changing pad in a color that matches your bag, as well as a travel wipes case. You might also want a bottle insulator, pacifier pouch and small zippered bag for wet items, such as an outfit that got dirty.

Backpack:-

For a mom on the go who prefers a two-strapped bag to the less practical one-shoulder diaper bag, use a standard backpack instead. Almost any backpack will do because they are usually made from washable, stain-resistant material and are roomy enough inside to fit all of your baby's needs.
Like the purse, your backpack can be filled with cases and bags to organize your baby's things, such as bottles, wipes and diapers.

Clutch:-
If you like to travel light and the thought of a heavy diaper bag makes you feel weighed down, you can use a clutch instead. This works best if you are nursing, so you do not need to include formula and bottles, and if you won't be out for a long time.Fill a clutch with just the essentials, such as one diaper and a few wipes wrapped in a plastic bag. If your baby takes a pacifier, clip it to his shirt and attach any toys to his stroller or car seat.

Stroller Basket:-
One way to travel bag-free is to utilize the basket underneath your baby's stroller. This handy tool is a wonderful way for moms to store everything you might need without having to carry a diaper bag along. Fill the bottom of the stroller with diapers, wipes, an extra outfit, burp cloths, pacifiers, bottles and some toys and keep them there to be used when needed. Choose items that you won't miss in the house, such as an outfit that you don't particularly like, and keep them there at all times so you are always ready to go without having to pack up.

Thanks a lot!
Diapees Andwipees

I had a wool cover just disappear (or so I thought) a couple of months ago. I just bought a new dryer and during removal of the old one, guess what turns up? Yes, my missing cover. I noticed there was something orange looking on it...still don't know what....but went ahead and washed and lanolized it. The orange did not come out of it...didn't even seem to lighten. At first I wondered if maybe it was some result of the wool cover getting hot while it had urine in it (I always let my used covers air out on a shelf above the dryer and I'm sure that's how it ended up behind the dryer) as the orange seems to be in the prime wetting area. But, anyways, even after lanolizing it leaks something awful. I used it one night with my 21 mth old dd who is not a heavy wetter at all and it leaked :-( I really don't think that any kind of substance could have gotten on it so I'm baffled. I've only had the cover since like Feb. of this year so I hate to lose it. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Though at nap time it's up the tummy(he's a tummy sleeper). often the PUL is wet around the legs, and the stretchy fastener part.

The insert can get bunched up at the crotch or the folded part wiggles down out of the inner fold(if that makes sense)

They seem to be absorbing, but oftentimes the back of the insert is still dry when it's leaked.

I haven't ever stripped them.

I use tide free & clear.

Is it just a bad fit now that's he's more mobile? (Though I know several toddlers who do great with flip system. ) how would I prevent bunging at the crotch?

Should I strip to see if that's the problem even though the test seems to show they're absorbing?

I want to love my Flips again! Any suggestions are appreciated:)

I discovered Grasshopper diapers from recommendations here and they quickly became my most favorite diaper. My 14 month old is growing out of the stock I have so I went to order the next size and the site says the store has closed. Anyone know if there is a secret stash somewhere? My husband literally said "oh no" when I told him the news, they must be his favorites too!

I just switched to cloth and took a chance on some gently used diapers to see what style was going to work for us. Unfortunately I think I took on someones problem diapers, and paid her to do it! After a thorough wash I double stuffed and put Maddie to bed in the cloth diaper, and this morning WOW the ammonia smell is out of control. Is there a detergent that I can get without waiting for an online delivery? What takes the cause of the smell out of the diaper? Should I just trash the inserts and start fresh? I appreciate and advice, Thanks Krisha Gurley

I have just started cloth diapering my baby, he's 5 months right now. I am wondering if I can use only hemp inserts?

We have fuzzibunz pockets and happy heinys but they just seem so bulky (coming from disposables). Is this just something that you adjust to?

Hello everyone! I was wondering about liners.
My baby is 4 months old and she will start solids soon and I know her poop will change and it won't be the easy to wash away breast milk poop.
See, I don't like to store the dirty diapers... dirty! I normally rise and almost wash by hand the prefolds, pocket shells and inserts before putting them in the diaper pail. So... this process is easier with breast milk poop, but with solids its a different story. I'm thinking maybe I'll make thing simple by using liners.
So the question is, Which is the best brand, do I use reusable or biodegradable?
Thanks!
