Do I need to do anything extra to my diapers after a Staph diaper rash? Once my LO started the rash I put him in disposables and stripped the diapers at my mother in laws (We have a front loader). The rash came back once I put him back in the cloth, so back to disposables we went. While at the DR for his 1 yr check, he thought it looked like a staph rash. We got special ointment and stayed in the disposables. I stripped the diapers again in our bathtub with hot water. His rash is almost gone, but I want to make sure he won't get the rash again when I put him back in the cloth diapers. Just checking to see if I should do anything else before putting him back in his cloth diapers
I would definitely use some sort of disinfecting method after a staph infection. I know bleach will kill it, but of course we all know that's not the most cloth diaper friendly method. Tea Tree Oil is also effective against staph, but I'm not 100% positive on how much one would use in laundry for that purpose. My youngest dd had a staph infection on her bottom last month...as soon as I suspected staph I immediately went to disposables because I know it's a nightmare to get rid of. I used about 5 tsp. of TTO to be on the safe side on the cloth she had already worn and the diapers reeked of TTO so I know they were good and saturated throughout with it, but unfortunately she ended up with another last week. I don't really think it came from the cloth diapers though....we have just had endless problems it seems for about 3 years now ever since my youngest son was 3 months old and hospitalized with MRSA. But anyways, I would def use some type of disinfectant besides hot water. jmo
