I have a son who is 1 year old. I have been trying to do c/d since he was 11.5 months. We were doing fine with disposables with no problems what so ever, but the $ was adding up for something we were just throwing away and add to the landfill so I was ready to try something new. Being a new mom not knowing anyone doing c/d as well as just buying the diapers on amazon not knowing there is alot to know about cloth. I took them out of the box , putting them on my son, and washed them only once with no extra rinse in the same soap that I use for his clothes (era) and using ( shout) for the poo ( yes super stupid), we ended up with a diaper rash on his poor little bum. During this time we were making plenty of other of changes including transitioning him to whole milk ( now on organic soy to take out that variable), and he had his first fever( I thought uti since he started to cry with diaper change- this was ruled out by his dr. And rash came a day later.
I own 13 pocket Charlie banana diapers and after the problem started using 13 aio bum Genious organic diapers. Since I have read up on washing routines I have changed what I have done by rinsing the original poorly washed diapers like mad- at least 5 times at first. Now I have been using a dry diaper pail for all diapers ( the same one I used with my disposables (munchkin - and it adds small amounts of baking soda when pail closed. Washing every 2 days, I put them in a he front loading washer and was once with cold and rinse cold, then add 1 teaspoon rocking green detergent to a warm wash cold rinse. And run another cycle cold/cold with no detergent with and extra rinse. I take the diapers out and let than dry by the window on a clothes rack.
I try to change the diaper every 2 hours and at night he will sleep in the diaper 8-12 hours. Despite this he still gets bright read around his bottom, inner thighs, and under his boy parts. Redness looks like tiny raised pimples. When he is switched to diaposibles it seems to go away. I have recently tried grovias roll on diaper rash ointment with no avail...
I don't know what is left to do other than strip them but I am afraid of putting dawn in my He washer , making the diapers soapy?. And I don't want to wash in super hot water bc this voids the warranty via both companies.
Has Anyone had a similar problem? Know a solution? Am in desperate need for help!
I am so sorry. Both diapers equally cause problems? Do you see bubbles in the machine when you use 1TB of RnG? Do you have hard water?
Does the rash go away within hours when you use disposables?
I would try Grandma Els for a barrier ointment and see if that helps. I don't personally use Grandma Els anymore for gluten purposes but I use The BALM or CJ's BUTTer spritz. Love them both.

We used a disposable over night and the rash is almost cleared up.
What r your thoughts on diaper liners ?
I used the disposable insert on the Charlie banana brand and it drove him crazy one night ( prob bc he felt the wetness?.
We live in the city and have a water softener so should have soft enough water?
Thoughts on stripping? I am worried the shout is still in The first diapers and washed together with the new diapers causing this never ending problem? ....
I'm sorry what does 1tb rng mean? After soaking all the diapers in the bath tub with a tbsp of dawn and hot water and stiring them around with a stick, i then washed the All the Charlie bananas and bum genious separaly 5 times In a row with the setting on extra rinse. I washed a few times in hot/hot water and the rest in cold. I dried them in the sun for 2 days. I started putting on a few of only the bum Guienius diapers 1st yesterday. I even am using the grovia diaper liners inside the diaper by his skin. This afternoon he is already starting to have a rash. I am going to order some of that ointment stat. I dont know what else to do if this doesn't work..... So frustrated and sad they rnt working;(
FIrst of all, 1 teaspoon of Rockin Green is going to do you no good. You need 1 TABLESPOON of it. You should be washing on hot, not warm. Is your water heater cranked up all the way? Make sure it is. Then do a soak overnight in your bathtub with the rockin green. 4 tablespoons worth. Then wash your diapers until you see no suds (hot or warm water will help rinse the detergent out). Put 1/4 cup bleach in your first hot wash (don't do this regularly!). Your diapers need a deep clean with some sanitization. Do you use bac-out? That will help remove the poo naturally in the future. I add 1/3 cup to my initial cold wash.
