I find that fitteds get ammonia smell faster than any other diapers.
The problem is they are so absorbent that they keep a hold of all that urine and detergent causing buildup. I loved when I had soft water and could do a vinegar soak. Worked like a charm.
Now with a front loader and hard water, I have to resort to the bath tub and Hard Rock or Funk Rock.
Have you found fitteds to have more problems? Maybe it's just me :)

I have found the same thing. I believe that it is because there are so many layers for bacteria to get trapped in and it cant rinse out very well. (basicly the same thing you said above..) I havnt had to strip in quite some time now though. (switched to a different wash routine that seems to do a better job cleaning them)
I made pocket fitteds (Rita's Rump pattern) and it was a nice compromise. I still had to use a cover but having the soaker separate really helps with the cleaning process.
