I need help! I don't know what the problem is! My 6 month old is leaking through almost every diaper and I am almost ready to quit cloth diapering! He is soaked every morning from shoulders to knees and I have to change clothes 2-3 times during the day as well. I pretty much only have Bum Genius 4.0's and the newer Freetime ones and have loved them until the last few weeks. I have tried stripping with the Rockin Green soak in my top loader with hard water and it seemed to help for a week or so. Then I thought maybe they were leaking because I hadn't dried the inserts in the dryer but it didn't seem to help when I dried the next batch. If I have been using the Rockin' Green for a couple months, should I try something else to strip them like RLR instead? Or the Dawn soap - however you do that? I soaked the diapers for about 45 minutes because I read somewhere you shouldn't do it for longer than an hour with the PUL on the diapers because it will damage it. I only use Grandma El's diaper cream and can't think of anything else that would cause the leaking! I thought about the sizing issue as well and have had him on the middle snaps because he's almost 20 pounds. I tried unsnapping them all the way and he just leaks at the crotch instead of the tummy or back. Wouldn't that seem to imply it's a stripping issue? I don't want to quit and prove the naysayers right about cloth diapers leaking all the time! Can anyone help?
Hi- Stinks to be so frusterated! We use Fliips. I tried the Dawn and bleach for my diapers. We weren't have a huge leaking problem, but I read that if you use dryer sheets in your other laundry you can be getting build up- So I was trying to aviod it. So far it's worked. There are directions on the Bumgenius web site actually. It's something like- a tablespoon of Dawn orignal and up to a quater cup of bleach( I didn't use that much). You will have to extra rinse a few times to get off all the suds. But it worked for me. Hope you have good luck!! I also have used the bumgenius detergent and rockin green. Like them both.
I'm confused. Are your diapers soaked after he pees or dry. The way I'm interpreting it is that he and the diapers are soaked. If so, congratulations! You have a heavy wetter! You're going to need some extra absorption behind the microfiber if that's the case. I think you would benefit most from hemp. I believe Autumn has posts of her fave diaper doublers on the main site. I know "hemp babies" are popular. http://www.nickisdiapers.com/happy-heinys-hemp-inserts.html I personally use these and love them. My son is a heavy wetter also.
