Hello everyone! Well I'm certainly creeping up on my due date...September 23rd, so I can officially say I will be having my first baby next month :-) . My husband told me I should take leave work earlier so I can get ready for the little one and just relax. Such a good guy. I've slowly been putting together the nursery and buying the odds and ends. But I was hoping I could get some advice on a few little things.
I'm planning on using cloth wipes, and was wondering what everyone uses for wipe solution? I'm thinking about putting the solution in a spray bottle, and using dry wipes.
I was also wondering what everyone's recommendations are for CD safe Diaper Rash Cream, and where you buy it from?
I use dry wipes and a spritz bottle too. I used to get Kissaluvs diaper lotion potion, but now I just make it of what ever I have! Today I made it with 3oz water, 2 squirts of witch hazel, 1 tablespoon Earth Mama Angel Baby shampoo/baby wash, 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil, 1 tablespoon olive oil and a couple drops tea tree oil. You basically want water, soap and moisturizers.
As far as diaper cream I use a cream made by a local mama called "Sweetcheeks" or CJ's butter during the day and put a good layer of Northern Essence Better Butter Cream for night (its more expensive, but works wonders!).
Thanks for the advice! I think I will go with Kissaluvs to begin with...I may make my own eventually but I would like to use the concentrate to get me started. What is Witch Hazel exactly? I see that I'm supposed to add it to the concentrate, but have never heard of it.
Witch hazel is a plant extract that is used as an astringent. You can find it at any drug store, and I've even seen it at the dollar store. It's good for cleaning and disinfecting baby's skin. I love it mixed with Kissaluvs diaper lotion potion, although I've started making my own diaper spray with witch hazel, tea tree oil, jojoba oil and lavender essential oil. I bought my first bottle of Kissaluvs before my son was born and it lasted a year! As far as rash creams, I love using coconut oil, but I got a sample of CJ's and it's great too. You can buy it from most online cloth diaper retailers.
The BEST treatment for diaper rash is Sudocrem. I used it every day on my baby and we never even got a hint of diaper rash !!! Sudocrem is basically the same as Triple Paste, only it's one quarter the price, plus has more of the active ingredient zinc oxide (15% as opposed to 12%). Sudocrem is available in UK and Canada, but you can also get it in USA through Ebay. Most ebay sellers will charge you shipping, as of course they aren't selling from USA. BUT there is one seller who sells from USA, so shipping is cheap and the link is here: Sudocrem 250g - world's best diaper rash cream. Highest qty of zinc oxide
We used Thirsties Fab Wipes and just used plain ol' water in a squirt bottle. For diaper rash cream, Earth Mama Angel Bottom Balm is the best and it works for other boo-boos too like bites, scratches, or chapped skin. You can order from Amazon for under $10. As an alternative, one way to let baby's skin heal is to have a little nakey time to kinda air out. Hope this helps!
You're right IrishMama. You'd have to use a liner if you use a cream with zinc oxide with a CD. I think the recommendation for that cream came from a person with a vested interest in the sale of the cream and not
Do you ladies still use liners if you are using CD safe cream, such as CJs? Since it safe it should just wash right off right...key would being should.
I'm using CJ's BUTTer more or less every day without a liner and I haven't had any buildup in my diapers so it must be washing out pretty well. That is based on 3-4 months of cloth diapering and no stripping of the diapers. I have a FL and use Rockin Green Hard Rock.
On another note, I find that disposable liners get all wet and stick to my baby's bottom irritating the skin - does anybody else have this problem? I've been using the Imse Vimse and Bummis (I think, it's kind of thick) disposable liners. The reusable fleece linsers I have work very well, though, so I'll probably stick to those.
Mum to a beautiful baby boy born early April 2012 :-) I am also a Norwegian astronomer living in Chile
Has anyone used Badger Diaper Balm? I saw it in the health food store next to MotherLove. It was $9.99 for 2 oz vs $8.99 for 1oz of MotherLove. The ingredients look to be CD safe though thought I'd check to see if anyone has had any experience with it and CDs.
