This is my first baby and we are psyched about using cloth diapers - but even after all of my research - I am kind of confused.
I recently got a great deal on the BumGenius 3.0's in size small and medium so I purchased 12 of each. But that is it. I know that I may need more and am aiming to get several of the 4.0 OS, but my biggest question is "WHAT NOW?"
I am confused about inserts - do you need them for the 3.0's? Do you just need them at night?
They have several size inserts for the 4.0?
Can you use something else? I saw a youtube video where the mother was using microfiber dishcloths as her inserts... seems to work for her...
Inserts-it all depends on your baby as to when you need them. Some are super soakers, some don't sleep in huge stretches, some have predictable nap schedules early on.
The 4.0 are OS. You will need to use snaps to adjust the rise/fit of the diaper. That is why there are different sizes (lengths) of inserts.
Different fabrics have different uses. Hemp absorbs a lot, but it does it slowly--great option if your baby pees a little bit all night, not so great if your baby is the great flood type. Microfleece can be a good stay dry liner option because it wicks moisture away from the skin, but it can be too drying if your baby has sensitive skin.
My bumgenius take a good day to air dry, so you most likely will need more than 12 diapers if you are going to CD exclusively. I'm a huge fan of prefolds and covers.
