I am an expectant first time mom to one stubbourn, we think little girl, but she won't give us a clear view of her area, so it could be a boy. I have been set on cloth diapering for as long as I have been a full time nanny (5 years) cause I HATE disposables. GROSS.
My name is Lea and I'm a SAHM to my wonderful 10 month old son. We decided to cloth diaper before he was born, and had a stash of GMD prefolds and various covers all ready (in gender neutral colors because his sex was a surprise ;) for his arrival. I've loved every single day of cloth diapering. There were women who laughed when I told them I planned to cloth diaper and said, "we'll see how long that lasts...you're going to hate it!" these were moms who had never even tried cloth diapers! I'm proud when I tell them that we're still CDing 10 months later and loving it! I also still love my GMD prefolds, but have bought some pockets (I've got some FB OS that I'm looking to sell because they don't fit my long, chunky little guy well), and AI2's to try because diaper changes have become such a challenge (he's all over the place! ;) anyway, I love your blog Autumn and am so happy I stumbled across it! And I'm excited to meet other CDing moms, as I don't know too many.
Hello! I'm Laura, and baby 2 is due in July. I used CD with my daughter for about a year until I ran into an open sore problem that I couldn't/didn't know how to beat. But she wears cloth at night again, and I'm looking forward to using cloth with my second. I love cloth and have hated using disposables, so I'm super excited about cloth. I've selected a newborn rental program, so once that period is over, I'll get to wade through all of the options out there and (finally) get a new stash of diapers! Can't wait!
Hello! I'm Penelope from Victoria, B.C., Canada. I'm a FTM to a 3 month old and he's just the love of my life (in addition to DH of course!). I love every minute I get to spend with him (despite all the crying and sleeplessness night, LOL!). We have been cd'ing for a few weeks so I'm a newbie. DH is very supportive.
I've been using Grovia, Flips and TotBots. I just bought some bumgenius' too so will try those out - the simple ones are good for DH :). I really like them all and my LO seems to be adjusting pretty well - he was pretty fussy initially, I guess he could feel the wetness more than disposables. He's long and skinny so we had to wait a bit before he was big enough for them. I'm getting pretty obsessed though!!! I've traded shoes and purse shopping for cloth diapers, ha ha!!
Thanks so much for starting the forum Autumn. This is wonderful. I use(d) your blog and website ALL the time and really appreciate all the tips, reviews, etc.
Hello, I'm Erin from Olivehurst, California. I'm a WOHM to a 14 motnth old girl who is full of energy. I am new to cloth diapers and am anxious to get started (my rental package is on its way). I have learned so much from this website, the blog and Autumn's guide, I find myself constantly referencing it. Can't wait to get started :D
I'm pregnant and due in June. I didn't CD any of my other kids but I nearly have my husband convinced that we can do this! Feeling very overwhelmed and confused so I just keep trying to read as much as possible and I'm putting together a list of questions!
Thanks for all the helpful info, it's the only thing that makes me feel like I can do it :)
Hi! I'm Michelle, from Sunderland, VT. I am a cloth diapering, babywearing, breastfeeding mom to my 7 1/2 month old son. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our cloth diapers. When I was pregnant I thought about cloth diapering, but I didn't have the right kind of information so I decided against it. It wasn't until I was closer toward the end of my pregnancy that my friend told me he had cloth diapered his two sons and loved it. We started with g diapers and weren't a fan, but a very generous friend gave us 4 bumgenius that she had from her twins and from then on we were hooked! This website has been my go to for reviews and tips. Love it!
Hola, I'm Daniela were are in and from Mexico. I'm a stay home mom of a 20month old boy. I always had on mind cloth diapering but when I finally got pregnant tried to look for Mexican brands (you know "buy local") but every diaper looked so harsh, outdated and expensive (also not cute!) . Baby was born and close to his first year I started kicking myself for not Cding from the beginning. So I was able to get two Mexican brand and a couple of BGs. There is NO information around here, so I found the Fluffy Friday posts... And then found the AACD site oh my... Fell in love with CD. It is an addiction and I'm so happy of doing it. Always hated disposables, gel crystals, red skin and adhesive scratches!!! Anyway, hubbie is supportive and already give in that we will need more than 12 diapers ( aka I can buy just because I like them) but don't ask him to change one, he will literally pass out with a poopie one haha. We are trying to raise ds with AP and we are crazy enough to grace every brand with the nighttime challenge. Buying CD here is not so fun, they will try to sell you Alva baby in $16dlls and BG $27dlls !!!! Sooooo I'm trying to put together my own cd boutique! That will be my bd wish!!! Hope my English is good enough!
Daniela Cardenas. SHAM of one cute 20mo old boy :) Hola from Mexico!
Hi everyone! My name is Lisa, I live in Portland, OR and am currently 37 weeks pregnant with my first child. I am a a part-time student and will be a stay at home mom. I've been receiving your daily blog Autumn for a few months now and am just now becoming part of the discussion board here. I am a labor support and postpartum doula, past midwife assistant, child care provider and auntie to many of my friends children. Through this experience, I have definitely put lots of kiddos in many differnt cloth diapers! I am so happy that my partner is on board with cloth diapering and we also plan on attempting Elimination Communication as part of our routine. I am planning on using prefolds with snappi and using diaper covers, as this seems like the most economical and simple system for us, at least right now. I've been doing tons and tons of research on CD, and am excited to become a part of this discussion board to learn even more!
Hi! My name is Amy! I am going to be a new mom come July (7th) and my husband and I have decided to use cloth diapers. I've been reading reviews and have become overwhelmed with all the choices. Looking for some advice on where to begin in this process:)
I don't even remember anymore how I came across your blog (probably just google-ing cloth diapers) but it was while I was pregnant and I've been a regular ever since. Your Ultimate Guide to Cloth Diapers has really helped me out too and through you I've expanded my horizons beyond only Rumparooz (though still a top fav diaper).
We live in WA and DD is nearly 9 months old and we've been CDing from the start. It's great and I've even converted a few other mamas on the way which is particularly gratifying.
Glad you got this forum up and running! So awesome. Thank you. :)
Hi! (so excited to find this forum!) My name is Jessica and I live in Ann Arbor, MI. I was really excited to use cloth with my first son and bought everything I needed pre-baby. Upon his arrival and the chaos of learning to be a mama, I sold everything and used disposables :( When my second son arrived I was much more at ease and have been cloth diapering since he was 3 months old. We have a new baby due to arrive in the early fall and I am looking forward to building up a newborn stash :)
I was so excited to find this discussion board. I have read your blog for sometime but haven't yet been on here. I wanted to tell the story of my son's recent hospital stay. He is 20 mo. and been cloth diapered since he was 2 mo. We were so broke and by the opinion of others had "no business having a baby yet" so I made my own diapers out of sheets, T-shirts and old towels. Had no idea what i was doing, but they still work! Ok, so back to the hospital, to spare a long long story, in a nutshell, he got very very sick and we almost lost him, but he recovered in just 2 days and in 4 days it almost is as if nothing happened! We are believers and I feel just as blessed with this miracle as I did the day my son was born. So, during the stay, he had to wear disposables despite my pushing to keep him in cloth. They had to monitor his urine output by weighing the diapers and said my diapers wouldn't work. He hated them. Kept pulling at it and fussing. I had mini freakouts whenever I would change him and there would be crystals on his privates. Like the little guy wasn't going through enough without that. So, I didn't know if there could have been any other alternative or if you know of or have had this kind of experience, but I will say, he went through one regular size package in 3 days and he had a catheder (sp?) for almost half that time. Just shows how much we would have spent the last year and a half and reaffirms my love of cloth! He is happily romping around in his cloth this morning like nothing ever happened. God is good!
I'm a stay at home mom of of a 1 year old little girl. We had decided to cloth diaper before she was born but ended up moving from Idaho to New Mexico one month before she was born and with everything that was going on that didn't end up happening til she was 3 months old. We are loving it though and I'm so glad we finally ended up getting some pocket diapers a little over a year ago.
Hello everyone! My name is Sarah and I am a new mom. I have a 6 month old baby boy. I just started cloth diapers. I was looking into it when I was pregnant but gave in to disposables. I was so overwhelmed by all the CDs out there. I was scheduled to go back to work full time but I was laid off. I now have had the time to look into CD again. I've got a small stash and have started to try to use them. My son is so sensitive to everything! I'm hoping cloth will give his skin some relief. Thanks Autumn for starting this forum and for all the information you have put out there for us.
Im a 21yr old Stay at Home Mommy to a 1yr old boy and soon a newborn babygirl July 26th. Im learning everything I need to know about cloth diapers from all you CD Mommies now because I can not afford to keep buying disposables. My bf is on board with me switching up for cloth diapers to save money and wants to learn about it all just like me.
I am Carli and I have a 5 and a half month old daughter. I am new to this whole cloth diaper thing and I love the using them and the thought but I am not having any luck with them. They are becoming quite frustrating. I posted my issues in a discussion. I need help!!!
I'm going to be a FTM...really excited about cloth diapering even though everyone but my husband and my mom think i'm crazy! Our little girl is due Aug 7. I've already started building a stash - however small it may be - and I'm hoping to get some more diapers at my baby shower. So excited for this forum to be a place for support and help as I take on this journey!
I'm Andrea from Ohio. My husband and I are expecting our first in November. We definitely plan on cloth diapering from the beginning. I'm here to gain as much insight and knowledge as I can before this little one comes along.
I'm a stay at home mom of 5 plus I do in-home daycare. My children are 13-11-8-4 and 5mos. We live in Northern Michigan. My husband works in the oil field so he is gone out of state about 3 weeks out of the month :( Out of 5 kids this is my first time using cloth diapers. It's been an experience that's for sure! This page has helped me alot! Thanks for the page and advice!
Hi, my name is Caitlin. My husband, Kory, and I live in MN. We are expecting our first child, a girl, in September. I'm entirely new to CDing and am the first in my family to do so. No doubt they think I'm nuts :-) .
Hello, my name is Teresa. I am expecting my second baby in September (second boy). I used disposable diapers with my first and with all the new types of cloth diapers and how prone to rashes my first one was, I thought maybe we could give this a try. If we could save money and red bottoms, then why not? Thing is, I have NO CLUE about any of it. I'm looking to find out... everything. I'm a bit lost. o.O
I am a soon to be new mom (Our little girl is due October 1) and I am the first in my family to try something so "outrageous" as Cloth Diapers. I live up in Alaska (where diapers cost an arm and a leg) and will be a stay at home mom so I will have plenty of time to fumble through CD. I'm not getting a ton of support for trying CD since my family thinks I'm nutso, and my husband isn't on board yet...but I'm going to be staying at home with our little girl and it's something that I've been wanting to try - so why not! I'm hoping ya'll can help me stumble through all of my CD issues! Looking forward to chatting with you all!
I'm Mindy and I am a SAHM. I have 3 kiddos, a 15 year old girl going into 10th grade...eeekkk and a 10 year old girl going into 4 th grade...who still calls me her best friend and listens to my advice ;) and a 9 month old baby boy... Who is the biggest mommys boy ever! I have been married to my husband for 2 years in January. The girls are from my prior marriage. I'm am so happy that I stumbled upon this site! It seems to have suggestions for everything. I have tons of questions and have already been posting a few, just waiting to hear back. Thanks so much for creating this for people like me who are walking into the world of CD with a blindfold on.
Hello, my name is Stephanie, I have 2 girls Sophie Mei is 3 years old and Leilah Lin is 4months old. I am new to CDing and started when my baby was 2 months old. I wanted to cloth diaper my first born but being a first time mom decided not to, plus i didn't know I was going to quit my job and become a SAHM. So the second time around I was sure of going the CD way. We started simple, with a few prefolds and covers, then we slowly moved to hybrids (for when we run errands) and now we are hooked on pockets, then we went all the way with cloth wipes. So far we haven't had any problems, thanks to lots of research, patience and commitment. We live in Costa Rica which makes CD a little difficult, meaning we have to order everything online and pay extra shipping and fees. So we are constantly shopping for sales and little by little adding to our stash. I love cloth diapers, I'm always spreading the word, showing of how green and natural my baby's bum is hehe... Love that there is a place where any question that may come up will be answered! Thanks!
Hello Everyone! My name is Erica. I'm a little late in the game being a mom of seven and just now looking into cloth diapers. I am tired of spending $100 a month on diapers. I am very overwhelmed with all the options. So I joined the forum to get some help. I had no idea cloth diapers have come so far. I just thought of the old bulky ones and thought "NO WAY! I don't have time for all that. There is enough wash for me to do already, add to that homeschooling and sports." I know what I want in a cloth diaper, but I don't know which cloth diapers have what I am looking for. So that is what I need help with. Thanks!
Hello. My name is Felisha. I have two little girls 6 & 2 and am 28 weeks pregnant with a boy. I have been using cloth on my 2 yr old since she was born and she is currently potty training.
I am due any day now! So excited! I have been working on my CD stash since probably Feb. I have already asked Autumn a few questions here and there on her FB page and always got a quick response! This site has been a life saver with all the questions I have had! I'm excited to actually start! Nice to meet you all. My screen name is because it's year of the Dragon and I'm having a girl! So she's my Pink Baby Dragon! :D
My name is Diane and I raised 4 children, all cloth diapered, LOL. The youngest is 37 so the disposables were very bad at that time. I have 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. One of my granddaughters is having her first child in November and is planning on CDing. We are planning to make our own diapers and have been looking for patterns and instructions. But I was looking over this forum and I am confused at some of the discussions. Like, what on earth is "stripping" and why is it necessary? I never had to do anything like that, just soaked them in cold water, and washed them twice. Once with hot water and mild detergent and bleach once in awhile. I hope we can learn a few things and I will introduce my granddaughter to this site tomorrow. Thank you.
My name is Michelle and I have a little miracle boy who was 3 months early (and now he's almost 5 months old). I got interested in cloth diapering when my cousin showed me her flips. I initially wanted to use them right when our son was born, but we let the NICU take care of his diapers for the first 2 months of his life, then we used some sposies that we got at baby showers until he was finally big enough to fit into newborn sized diapers! Then we did prefolds with covers. Now we are using primarily grovia diapers and love them! My husband is slowly getting on board (we still have a bunch of size one sposies that fit, so he generally uses those, but we haven't bought any sposies ourselves). :-)
My name is Amber, and I had my baby boy on May 15 2012. I am a stay at home mom, and my father in law talked me and my husband into trying cloth diapering. He is starting us out with 70 cloth diapers (I have no idea what style, or anything) and is trying to give me pointers from his diapering experience from 30 years ago...lol. Just trying to figure it all out with out getting frustrated doing it! lol
Amber From MT Baby boy born 5-15-2012 New to cloth diapers
Hey, I'm Amy and a mother of 2 soon to be 3 in about another week or two. :x I used disposable diapers on my first child, but we decided to go with cloth with baby # 2. Our second daughter was born in June of 2009 and we started out with disposables until she was about 2 months old. We had a lot of success with gDiapers. I was attracted to this brand because they offered different sizes and have easy snap in liners with cloth or disposable inserts. I used the cloth inserts the most, but did keep the disposable inserts for travel. These were flushable if poopied and we were able to compost the wet inserts. To cut back on energy costs, I got into a habit of hand washing the cloth inserts that were wet only. This was easy to clean immediately and if I needed them dried quickly I could toss them in the dryer for 10-20 minutes. If I had a good supply clean and dry, then I could hang dry the inserts for the following day. The inserts are made from a hemp/cotton blend that is very absorbent and we had fewer instance of diaper rash with daughter #2 (Amelia). This could have been due to my experience, her sensitivity level or any number of things. I have heard that when using cloth diapers you have to watch out for rashes more often, but that was certainly not my experience. I still have Amelia's gdiapers and plan to use them for the new baby. The start up cost is a bit expensive, but I believe it to be well worth the money compared to what you can save in the long run. Not to mention that many of us prefer cloth out of respect for our environment - energy costs may or may not increase with cloth diapering, I have found no substantial studies to indicate this argument has merit. I have; however, received an abundance of animosity over the years regarding my decision to switch to cloth diapers. I think that comes from people being uninformed and irritated at the thought of change. Regardless, if any of you experience this please remember that your decision is for you and not for them and it is not your problem, but theirs.
I'm Randi Jo. I am a christian, conservative, home-birthing, programmer, wife, children's church leader and "Mom" to 3 adorables. (6 yr daughter, 5 yr son, 3 week daughter.) I'm starting this cloth diapering venture with my 3rd and have found it to be addicting thus far! This site has been such an abundance of blessings to me and I've already shared it with others who are also starting to try cloth-diapering.
Hi my name is Miriam. I'm a mom to 4 kiddos and I've been cloth diapering for the last 18 months. I origionally started using cloth because my youngest had/has severe allergic reaction to all the disposables I tried on him, but now I've found that I love, love, love cloth and I wish I would have cloth diapered with my other three!
Hi My name is Eliza. I have a 4 year old daughter, Inara, and a 5 week old son, Orion. I just started cloth diapering with my 5 week old. I wanted to do cloth diapers with my daughter but was a single mom, at the time, and had a full time job so it was an impossible task and I was a little sad about it. Anyways, I'm starting to realize that cloth diapers can be an obsession :) (I'm guilty) I've spent countless hours online trying to figure out what is the best option. At this point, I've invested mostly in itti bitti tuttos, but still working on building full cloth diaper stash. I'm also interested in wool, I've ordered a few covers from Etsy. I have two challenges that I'm hoping won't be an issue - A front loading HE washer and Hard water. Since I just started a few days ago, every things been fine, but I guess we'll see. I use 1 Tblspn Rockin' Green Hard Rock powder detergent, 1 Tblspn Calgon and after reading your forum about safe fabric softeners (I think it was your website) tried some Mrs. Meyers last night for the first time. Just worried about getting diaper buildup, crossing fingers it won't be an issue. At this point trying to figure out which diapers I should get. I've been looking at Sustainablebabyish OBF fitted, BumGenius free time & Elementals. It's overwhelming. Two things I prefer are the organic, natural materials and a trim diaper. But I do love the Itti Bittis, just expensive! Ok... deep breath :)
... Oh and I forgot to mention, I spray Bac-out prewash on the dirty dipes before I put them in the pail. I do 1 load a day. .... Anyways, would love to hear about diapers people love, wash routines and suggestions.
Hi, I just got my cloth diapers, I am new at this, I'm from mexico and I am very excited with CD, I' m having problems because my baby who is 2 months old is getting red marks, I bought the bumgenius freetime diapers, I'm starting to think that maybe I made a bad decision in the CD brand, what do you think?
Hello all, I am Saima, mom to 20 month old Russell. DH and I have been cloth diapering since the beginning because I really dislike the chemicals used in disposable diapers and DH loved the fact that it was way less expensive than tossing thousands of $$$ of diapers into landfills over the course of our son's diapering life (and maybe another one if we are blessed). Plus, our pediatrician really encourages the choice of cloth for little boys because cloth diaps are cooler and better ventiliated than disposables.
We have a moderate sized stash that is a mix of almost everything: prefolds with either PUL or wool covers, fitteds, pockets, AI2, and AIOs. After trying out a lot of different styles and brands, I really feel like cotton and hemp diaps wash and dry the best. I don't love microfiber because I find that it holds smells more (using the same wash routine for everything--the cotton and hemp smell totally fine), but have some inserts and liners....plus, it is pretty darn hard to get a pocket without any microfiber.
I'm Heather and live in the northwest suburbs of Illinois. My husband and I have five children, however, number five is my first cloth diapering experience. I started cloth diapering to save money but now I'm doing it for my baby too.
Hi I'm Sara and have decided to start cloth diapers on our 22 month old little girl and the new little one due at the end of January. Really don't know where to start, what to get, how to go about it, pretty much everything. I can honestly say I need help. I want this to be a great experience.
Hello! My name is Jill. I will be a first time mom in another 7 or 8 months. I decided to go for cloth diapering. I want to learn as much as I can so when the baby comes, it would not be too difficult.
Hi there! I'm Christine, a soon-to-be new mom the end of October. I've been doing much research into cloth diapers and am interested to know what actually works and what doesn't. I plan on trying a few different options for the newborn period and then trading them in once our daughter is ready for the OS's. So excited to meet her and to start this big adventure!
My name is Lindsay and I am a stay-at-home mama to 2 wonderful kids, 4 and 2. I started cloth soon after my 2nd was born, almost 2 years ago. I have all bumGenius 4.0 snaps and love them. My husband is also on board which helps. I wish I had started with my 1st baby. I have had very little problems, until recently with the purchase of my new washer (Toshiba FL) and now I think I have ammonia buildup. Research to correct lead me to this site.
Hello all, my name is Sharon, I have a baby boy that I'm so lucky to stay at home with. My husband and I had our first baby boy in March and we started with cloth diapers. I never even thought of cloth diapers, it was what I remember seeing in pics of my parents with a big bubble bottom and rows of diapers on the clothes line.
But a friend of mine started using cloth diapers and loved it. It was nothing like what I thought so I decided to give it a try and bought a sample pack online and thought we'd just try a trial run.
That was all it took. I'm hooked. Even my weary husband is on board and we really can't see ever going back. Even the "bubble bottom" is something we love. We still use disposable when we go out to dinner and such, as we haven't figured out our system of cloth diapers if we are out and have to change a diaper.
Glad to be a part of this forum. Hope to chat with you all soon!
Hi there, everyone! Nice to meet you all! My name is Andrea. When I first started using cloth diapers, it took me a while to figure them out! :) I don't know about you, but I couldn't get it to fit correctly on my newborn! But eventually, I got it and along the way, I learned that using cloth is a) not scary, b) doesn't have to cost a lot and c) no super special secret sauce expertise needed! :) I did elimination communication (EC) with my little one and I used both cloth diapers and sposies for my diapering back-up time, cloth dipes 95% of the time. My little boy can now go to the potty all on his own but I joined this forum to learn more from mommas (and poppas) about cloth diapers and to share what I know. I am also a DiaperFreeBaby mentor and I always say that cloth diapering really helps with ECing responsibly. I would love to share cloth diapering tips I've learned and if anyone's interested, how we used cloth diapers during our time with EC. Excited to chat with everyone!
Hi, I'm Maggie! My girl Naomi has been in cloth for 3 weeks so far (she's 5 weeks today1 ) :x So far we have been using primarily flats and prefolds with PUL covers and Fuzzibunz and have been surprised at how much I like it. Had some problems with the Thirsties covers wicking early on, bit I think it's a matter of finesse + a heavy wetter?
We have been looking at the consignment table at our local CD store... any recommendations of what we should try next? So far I found a Thirsties pocket and a bum genius AIO with aplix...
