Hi all. I'm currently expecting baby #2 in the spring. We started CDing my daughter at about 6 weeks (she's almost 2 now). We have a good stash of mostly one-size BG diapers.
My question is this - my daughter was just shy of six pounds at birth and the BG diapers didn't fit till she was 6 weeks. We got tons of disposables at showers etc., so we just used those while she was a newborn. I really, really would like to not use disposables with this baby if possible, but I'm kind of balking at the cost of buying a stash we may only use for a month or two. I'm also a little (tiny, tiny bit) concerned I won't have the energy to keep up with the wash routine while in the newborn phase (although I've CD'd all through law school, so I think that's probably a baseless concern). I'm very familiar with the one-size pocket diapers and kids in my family have very sensitive skin, so I don't think any diapers system where moisture would sit on their skin would work for us.
Any thoughts? Anecdotes? Thanks!

You could try a dozen newborn prefolds just for the heck of it. Since you are changing them nearly every 1.5-2hrs at that age the moisture might not be an issue. Then you can use the diapers to add extra absorbancy your BGs later on.
If you don't mind buying used, you definitely might want to try the swapping sites. Most of the nb diapers are in great condition becuase they don't get used long. Even if you end up buying new you can get a huge portion of your money back if you sell your used ones. That makes the cost a little easier to swallow. When my son was nb I LOVED the Swaddlebees simplex (the sized, not the OS). It fit him so well, and was the only cloth diaper that wasn't bulky and swallowing him! He was able to wear them for awhile before he outgrew them. Since you have already cloth diapered I don't think you'll be too overwhelmed with the wash routine. To me, washing those nb diapers was the easiest, especially if you are nursing! Also, you might want to try out prefolds if you are looking for something less expensive. Get a few covers, and you're good to go!

I used Green Mountain Diaper prefolds with Rumparooz newborn covers...it worked well for me, and since I am planning on having more kids the cost was not to much of an issue. You could always try placing microfleece inside the prefolds, or perhaps sewing microfleece to the prefolds to wick away moisture. I know many people recommend doing a newborn CD rental program...I believe Autumn has a list somewhere on her site. Way less cost, and a lot of times you will get some "store credit" to use on a future purchase once you return your diapers. I know that Pooters offers a rental program off the top of my headm but there are a ton more.
