I am expecting our first this summer and plan to buy bum genius organic aios. Can I add an insert or doubler to these diapers for night time use or do I have to purchase a specific night time diaper? Also, are essential oils safe to use in washing diapers, in wipes solutions, and on baby for cloth diapers?

Most likely the BG Elemental isn't going to be your nighttime diaper of choice. Because it doesn't have a stay dry top (not necessary but many babies don't like feeling wet at night) and it needs a lot more absorbency it ends up being easier to buy a few "nighttime" diapers.
Yes, essential oils are ok for cloth diapers.Autumn Beck

I used Elementals for the the first 18 months with my DD. However, she has started peeing like a horse at night and during/at the end of naps.
Beccab, you could use Elementals with doublers for a while. We have LOVED the Elementals to this point. -
