My rental pack came with 2 inserts for the Flip AI2, 1 stay dry and 1 cotton insert. What combination of inserts do you use with your Flip AI2? Also is it me or does stay dry inserts kind of feel and look like microfiber?
Okay so the Flip stay dry is made of 3 layers of microfiber and then a suede layer. So I need to face the suede layer up towards the baby's bum because you shouldn't place microfiber directly on baby's skin. Right?
In my experience, and from what I know, it won't hurt the baby to have microfiber touching their skin, unless your baby is sensitive to it. With the Flips, You want the suede layer against baby's skin because that is what will wick the moisture away from the skin. I only have the organic cotton flip inserts and I sometime fold a hemp doubler into the middle of it and use a fleece liner to keep baby boy's skin dryer. I did that last night, but we had a leak :(. I think I should've used two doublers because he was up nursing a lot last night. Anyway, I hope that helps!
You don't really ever want to put microfiber against baby's skin. It isn't a sensitivity issue but the high absorbency of the fabric that causes the problem. MF absorbs so well that it draws the moisture out of baby's skin causing severe drying and eventually rashes.

Hi Lea, I use the flips and really like them. I have both organic cotton and stay dry. Yes, the soft side goes against the babies bum. If you look on the label it actually says, "this side down." :)
I use the flushable liner with both (well all my CD's bc it keeps the poop from soaking into the diaper, makes it easier to clean up). I also will add a microfleece liner to the cotton prefolds so my son doesn't feel the wetness as much. It's a bit over kill to do the two but it works for him. For the SD though, it's just the insert and the flushable liner. I change them about every two hours unless there's been a poo in between.
Those two inserts will really only do you for a few hours. Flips come in a day pack which is a two covers and 6 inserts - cotton or SD. That should be enough on a good day (depending on the number of poo's). HTH.
