We've been struggling with rash issues too. I use creams and it goes away for a few weeks and then it comes back. It always seems to re-appear first thing in the morning when my daughter had a FULL wet diaper. I thought is was ammonia issues so I stripped with Dawn and bleached a few times but it only helped temporarily. My sitter mentioned just this week that she thought it was yeast. She would know, she's been doing daycare for 30+ years!
I tried the GSE just yesterday. I have one or two more loads of diapers and accessories to wash to make sure I kill all the nasty yeast. I also started using coconut oil for diaper cream.

Should I keep DD in disposables until the rash is totally gone so I don't re-infect the diapers?

We are currently using Nyastatin cream four times a day. This has worked in the past. We have tried California Baby a couple of times (sometimes it seemed to hurt him a little when first applied) and Grandma Ell's--we had a disastrous experience with that one--tried it overnight with a micro-fiber lined diaper (which he had worn before with no problem)--he went to bed with no rash and woke up with a horrible ring of rash all over, and the diaper smelled horrible. I think it was mostly the microfiber causing the problem, but I haven't been able to bring myself to use the Grandma Ell's since.

I would like to use the natural/cloth safe creams, but they are expensive and hard to buy in my area, so I have stayed with the things I can buy locally that seem to work alright--obviously we haven't found the silver bullet yet. But we have had a few blessed periods of rash free times--usually no more than about two weeks, though--my little one has really sensitive skin.

I can't help with yeast, but as far as his normal rash problems go, you should totally try CJs butter. This stuff is awesome & cleared up rashes that the prescription creams wouldn't clear up for us. The sample jars last forever & are $1.50ish.

It might help to alsoadd some stay dry liners to your prefolds to keep baby's bum dry. You can make cheap liners yourself by cutting up a 100% ponly water fleece blanket.

We also use coconut oil, which works great, but Peanut was diagnosed with a yeast infection several weeks ago. I think it might have reoccurred, even with bleaching the diapers. What brand, style, etc of GFSE have you used? I've read that is the think to use against yeast spores, but there is so many types, brands and styles, I'm nervous about getting some. Those who have used it, any recommendations?

I'm wondering what brand of GFSE and Teatree oil did you use? Nutribiotic seems to be the most common brand of GFSE, what concentration are you using? There seems to be even more brands of teatree oil. I have some bath and body works teatree oil, will that work?

How much of the GFSE and TTO do you use in one load (what size load)?

Perfect post! I had originally came on here today to find out about how much tto to use to kill yeast. I had read an amount previously in drops but I don't have a dropper so I needed ml's or tsp measurements...so thanks Autumn. 2-3 weeks ago Gracelyne had diarrhea for a solid week (which unfortunately is still making it's way one by one through each person in the household and lasts a solid week). She ended up with a horrible yeast rash which I treated with Nystatin. I was using flannel liners in my cd's but after reading all the horror stories decided to do disposables until it was over. I hadn't yet received my tto oil at that time so I used bleach and extremely hot water and high heat dryer to disinfect and hopefuly kill the yeast spores (and praying I didn't kill the elastic or lining in my covers!) She went back into her cloth about 3 days ago and all had been well until this afternoon. I went to change her about 3 pm and there were several tiny telltale yeast spots. But, she has been on antibiotics since Sunday for strep and an ear infection. I had been giving her yogurt and probiotics hoping to stave off the antibiotic induction of yeast and either it didn't work or my diapers are still infected. Either way I've now got my tto and I plan on just re-disinfecting everything with it just to make sure. One more thing....I have a friend that swears plain yogurt is a sure fire cure (applied topically) for yeast in women and babies alike, but does anyone happen to know if it's cloth diaper safe??? I had tried using apple cider vinegar as I read it was good on baby yeast rashes but dd screamed like a banshee when I applied it so I assumed it burned and am afraid to use it again. I live in a very small town and there are no specialty or health stores nearby so anything that isn't common I would have to order and I need something now. I still have the Nystatin but I hate using meds if I can use something natural.

It is back... The yeast blisters showed their ugly faces again earlier this week. My daughter is just getting over the flu which was followed two weeks later by a nasty cold. This means she's had soft/runny poo for almost three weeks and we couldn't keep the yeast away. Not cool.

Turns out it wasn't yeast?!? The cultures all came back negative (which is a good thing but I wish we knew what was causing the issues). Needless to say, the anti-fungal we've been using didn't do squat. We resigned to disposables and zinc-oxide diaper cream.

It has been working really well but every time I put all those chemicals on my DD's bum I cringe and every time we go out to buy new disposables I think of all the cute cloth diapers I could be buying instead. Hopefully we'll be back to our wonderful cloth in the next week!

I'm new to cdering.
Is it common for little ones to have sensitivities to certain cloth diapers? Every time we put our daughter in a Fuzzibunz she gets a rash. We use sposies and cream to clear it up (only because we haven't received our cd-safe ointment yet in the mail) and she gets another one after the first Fuzzibunz cd she gets in. Is this normal?
And evidently she's prone to heat rash...if this means anything. She's only 3 weeks old.

It's probably a sensitivity. I'll try different fabrics next. We're clearing up her current rash now. I will try again when it goes away. She has no other rashes anywhere else. We use Rockin green detergent and no fabric softeners. I hope she's not sensitive to that because I LOVE it!
