Wow! A can actually answer someone else's question for once!!! I do have a flip organic and stay dry. You know the SD is like an insert, but the organic is like a flat that you trifold. It doesn't (or hasn't yet) quilted-up like my other prefolds have. Once trifolded, it is about the same size as the SD insert, just thicker. I do think it would prob hold a little more, imo. I prefer the SD.
I like the SD except that after a while they do get major ammonia buildup. But, I was using them on a >1yr old with hard water so already a combination for ammonia.

I thought the Flip organics were going to be our diaper of choice before my daughter was born but now they are the diaper I go to last. The organic inserts absorb a lot of urine but any stool that is not solid gets everywhere! We were never able to reuse the covers, they were always dirty and or wet after one use.
We use both the stay dry and the organic. During the day we use SD, night time we use the organic. They only thing I didn't like at the beginning was the bulk. But the girls aren't bothered by it. We usually can use the shells mulitpule time, unless they are wet or pooped on.
I have both too! I (and LO) definitely prefer the SD's and go to the organics last now too. The organics are really nice and very absorbent but I find the SD's bug LO less bc he's fairly sensitive to wetness. I definitely have to use a liner when I use the organics. For the organics, I trifold and put the extra on the front for a boy but I think it bugs his "package". We've had a bunch of leaks up the side recently so I'm wondering about adjusting the rise snaps but that seems odd to me bc LO isn't 17lbs yet (only 14).
I too haven't been able to contain the poo (if it's a big poo) for the organics. I typically have to change the cover if he poo's in it. The poo's have never leaked outside the diaper though and for that, I'm very thankful!
I'm sad to hear the SD's may get ammonia build up - that would really suck. We have some of the softest water in the world so hopefully we might be ok.
I just recently bought some flips with the organic insert and I love them on my 22 lb 10 mon old. They fit nice, I don't find them to be bulky at all (although I don't know how their bulkiness compares to the Flip SD insert), and they've never leaked. I would like to try the SD inserts too, but I've been using my Best Bottom SD inserts in my Flip covers and they work great.
For the ammonia buildup- I'm not really sure if that's what happened with us or not- but I started using Rocking green. I found that instead of three tablespoons I have to use three 'heaping' tablespoons of detergent. But it really made a difference with the odor. I feel like they are cleaner and my girls are happy. They had started to be red in the morning (not like diaper rash red, but just rosey not sure if that makes sense), but that's gotten better since I upped the det. amount So occasionally I will do the 'rock a soak' and I also use the Funk Rock in the prewash as well.
