So today Mayumi came home from daycare with a slight diaper rash (she is very sensitive) but since I don't have any CD friendly cream I just changed her into a CD (sposies at daycare). Everything was fine up until the poop. The first one was formed and it burned (may have been supper). I cleaned her up (ended up using rags because wipes burned) and put a new diaper on her. Then she pooped again (pretty loose) and the screaming began. So once she was cleaned up and had stopped screaming I put a new diaper on her. Again about 30 minutes later she was whimpering and so I checked her diaper, it was went so I took it off and decided to let her run around without one. Well apparently that didn't help because when she was in the kitechen (luckily laminate) she started peeing and she cried the whole time. At this point I decided she needed some diaper cream and a sposie. Well that was the wrong answer too! She screamed and cried liked she was being burned alive so I rushed her to the tub and some cool water. Now she is in bed with some powder and a sposie on...sigh :(( My thoughts are that the poop is what made the rash worse and not the detergent, especially because she came home with the rash. I hoping that it is better by the time she gets home from daycare so that I can put the cloth back on. I need to order some cream stat and was hoping for suggestions...After this I plan to go browse the other discussions for suggestions.
Poor thing! One thing that you may have around the house that I've had success with is coconut oil...very soothing and safe for cloth diapers. I haven't tried it yet, but if you are breast feeding you can put breast milk on the rash, I've heard from a lot of people that it really helps. This may get you through till you get some cream (CJ's butter is great and CD safe, and I've heard Grandma El's is good too). I hope that helps!
I feel bad for the both of you. It's so hard to see your little one in pain. When I was setting up my stash I picked up some microfleece (not microfiber) from the fabric store to use as a barrier between my CDs and a non-CD safe diaper cream if my little guy got a rash that was so bad I had to use desitin or something like that. Luckily, we haven't had to use it yet. We do use CJ's butter after each dirty diaper and after changing the overnight diaper--no rashes yet. I'm pretty sure it's on sale at rediaper.com right now.
Last night I orderd the CJ's Butter, Grandma El's and Burt's Bees. The microfleece is a great idea! I am currently renting and trying these diapers for 2 weeks so I want to be able to use them as much as possible. Maybe I will pick some microfleece up to use until I get my CD safe diaper cream.
I addition to all that, she woke up screaming at 1:30 because she had peed and it was burning her skin, she was hysterical. Then when I dropped her off a daycare as the car door was sliding shut she quick reached out for something and then got her fingers in the door...
I don't have a suggestion so much for a cream, but I can tell you that cornstarch (pure 100% like you buy in the baking section at the grocer's) works wonders on rashes. I always use it in conjunction with a barrier cream on my little ones when they have a rash . The cornstarch absorbs the urine or loose stool and helps keep it from irritating the skin. I use about a 1/4 cup at each diaper change when needed. The only rash you would not want to use cornstartch on would be a yeast rash as it can feed on it. But for run of the mill rash from sensitivity or prolonged exposure it works great.

I love Bee All Natural's baby powder! If you like powder I highly recommend it.
I am so sorry, Erin, that you are going through this. I know you literally just started cloth diapering but don't give up! Do you remember what diaper she was wearing when she got the rash? You are using a variety trial pack, correct? She may be allergic to one of the inner fabrics. Remind me what you are using.

I do have a variety pack. FuzziBunz Pocket, BumGenius 4.0 and Elemental, Flip, Blueberry fitted; Swaddlebees Simplex 2.0 AIO, Bummis Tot Bots AIO; Weehuggers Cover, AppleBottoms cover and inserts. I did end up buying the microfleece and placing it between my DD and the diaper so i could use the diaper cream I have until my CD friendly cream arrives tomorrow or Tuesday. She does have very sensitive skin so I worry about if it is the material or the detergent. However since the rash has cleared we have used almost each of the listed diapers with no new rashes, so fingers crossed.
Just trying to think out of the box here, but you said she was crying when she peed in the kitchen WITHOUT wearing a diaper. Now, unless she was just upset at having an "accident," could it possibly be a UTI or bladder infection? I know when I had them before (as a kid, about 8-9 yrs old) it really burned when I peed. Perhaps a trip to the pedi would help? It may not be your diapers at all.
