I'm a first time CD user and I've had all kinds of problems. At first it was leaking...solved that by getting new covers (Bummi's super whisper wraps). Now though my son is constantly crying in his cloth (perfectly happy when we put a disposable on). Also I've noticed that he doesn't bend very easily in the cover, or like being reclined in his swing anymore...almost like the bulky wrap is putting too much pressure on him. What can I do? My husband is getting fed up with the cloth diapering, and just wants to put him in disposables...
What are you using under the cover? Flats, prefolds, contours, fitteds???? If you think bulk is the problem perhaps you could decrease the bulk factor by going with a less bulky insert. Flats would prob be a superb choice if that is indeed the problem.

I've been using a pre-fold (the birds eye ones, at least that's what my mom calls them...) with one flat insert because LO wets a lot! I use a snappi to close it all up...its more like the cover is very stiff and doesn't seem to give.
I'm afraid of only using flats, because his bm's would go all over the cover...I would have to wash at least once a day to have the covers...I tried just using the prefold by itself and had a big mess on my hands :/
I am very new to CDing as well but in the last 18 days I have tried a lot of things on my 15 month old daughter. I really love using the prefolds in a tri-fold with a snappi and cover when we are at home, but it is bulky and I notice that my daughter likes to mess with the diaper alot. If your finances allow you might want to try some AIOs, with all of the AIOs I have there is enough room to add extra inserts. However another idea that I would strongly recommend is a diaper rental program. They vary in length but they give you all the supplies to try multiple styles of diapers. I went thru Diaper Daisy and did the 2 week trial, it cost $139.95 but as long as everything is returned as it was issued (just returned mine but hasn't reached them yet) you will get $120.00 back. My rental included AIO, AI2, Pre-folds, Pockets & fitteds and it really helped me learn quickly what works for my daughter. I also believe that Diaper Junction has one and there's is 30 days long. I have to say I am really in love with fitteds and covers, by daughter is still a heavy wetter and during the day I can add 1 inserts and there is great absorbancy and then turn around at night and add 3 inserts and have her still be dry and happy in the morning. I'm sure there are alot more experienced CD mom's who may have some better advice but just wanted to share with you what I have learned so far:)
hmmmm....I've not tried the Bummis Whisper wraps so I'm not sure if the stiffness/bulkiness you describe is the norm for them. I think the thinnest cover I have used thus far is the Flip. It is super thin but absolutely marvelous. I use on my 17 mth old dd with a prefold (snappi'd on the old fashioned way...to contain bm as you mentioned). I also like that it can be wiped and reused...but like I said, it is by far one of the thinnest covers I imagine one can get and still be really good at containment.

Thank you all so much! I've given the covers a few extra washes to try and break them in and they seem to be softening up a bit and I've also just started changing LO's diaper more often to help with the wetness issue.
I think he just wasn't use to the bulk after the disposables or the wetness. He's been doing much better after I started following the advice you all gave. Thank you so much for your help in making my baby happy :-)
