Hello! I started cloth diapering my son in March and fell in love with it. I dove head first into the Bum Genius 4.0. I always knew he had sensitive skin and when we switched to the cloth diapers his little butt was so clean and free of irritation.
In April we discovered my son has a pretty bad case of eczema, explaining his very sensitive skin. Any irritants on his skin cause red patches and itchy skin. This means poo is a pretty big cluprit. If we leave it on his skin at all it seams he breaks out into a red diaper rash and we have to go back to disposable diapers. While we try like crazy to keep on top of the diaper changes in the cloth the issue is he keeps "sneaky pooing" and we are right back into the disposables again. It's a vicious cycle.
The best thing I can do for him is to put a cream on him every diaper change to have a barrier on his skin. I have seen a few other similar posts on here and saw the suggested creams but I am afraid to use them on the Bum Genius because on their site they make it sound like if I use diaper cream on them they will be ruined forever with no chance of return.
Has anyone had experience using a cream with the Bum Genius 4.0 and not had them self destruct? :) I would love to keep using them and not be a few hunders dollars in the hole on something I loved but can't use anymore.
(Side note - I have read about putting in inserts inside the diaper against the cream to protect the diaper but the diapers are already so bulky I can't see adding more bulk to that and another thing to keep track of.)
Thank you in advance for your help, I don't want to throw in the towel just yet!
My son also has eczema. CJ's BUTTer is your solution! It's cloth diaper safe. You basically want to avoid zinc creams with cloth diapers. CJ's is extra moisturizing for little butts and pretty much everything else. I put it on bug bites, dry skin, rashes...everything! It comes in different scents (and none have aggravated my son's skin), but I would recommend the sample pack they sell so you can try different scents. Get one unscented though. http://www.cjsuniqueboutique.com/?p=2228 I love monkey farts, green Irish tweed and lavender for nap and bedtime. I put it on almost every diaper change. You don't need much.
Thank you so much! Just ordered some in the unscented, he has incredibly sensitive skin so while I'm sure the scents are great I don't want to risk it. Looking forward to getting back into cloth diapers! Thank you again for your help!
We have found that Grandma El's works great for our girls! One baby has much more sensitve skin than the other. And it smells good! We have also started using the Grovia liners to reduce build of the creams even though they are cloth diaper safe. The liners look like a dryer sheet- So there isn't any extra bulk. But it is kinda a pain, but worked into our routine just fine. :-) Good luck!!
