I have been successfully CDing my DS for 14 months, and he could wear anything. Organic, cotton prefolds, microfiber, suedecloth. Anything! Now, all of a sudden, he gets horrible rashes whenever he poops and I don't get to it right away. His whole butt is red and sometimes, when it's really bad, it's like open sores on each butt cheek. I'm so frustrated, and quite frankly, my husband is pretty ticked off and ready to throw in the towel. I've tried everything I can think of: boiling, soaking overnight, stripping in the wash, Tide, Country save, Sun Oxy, switching to all cotton, switching back to stay-dry, all to no avail. The only thing that solves it is using disposables with regular diaper rash cream until it clears up. Then, after an intense stripping session, I try cloth again. Once he has a good poop, the cycle starts all over again. I don't know what else to do. I'm so confused, especially since for 14 months there was no issue :-(
I had the same issue for awhile, instead of using disposables I just added a flush-able liner to protect the diaper from the regular diaper rash cream. Once the rash cleared up I started using Grandma El's diaper rash cream (it's safe for cloth) as a barrier between her skin and poo for each diaper change and that solved my problem and my LO doesn't get diaper rash anymore. I hope this helps!
jesikastaggs I did the exact same thing as Sarah. My daughter has sensitive skin and when we started CDing at 14 months she seems to have rashes as usual. In the beginning I used washable liners with regular Desitin and then once it cleared up I got Grandma Els and i apply it with each diaper change. it really seems to work:)
