This is what I was thinking of getting/using for my diaper stash. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this, and if I should add, remove or change anything:
Until potty training: I received these diapers, used, from a friend. I still need to strip them as she was having hard water and build up problems towards the end, and thus had to switch to disposables. -6 Goodmama -3 Flip Covers -4 Katydid pockets -1 Bum Genius -1 off brand pocket (can't remember the name) -2 size Large Dream Eze
These are the diapers I have/am thinking of purchasing -6 Bum Genuis -6 Rumparooz
That brings me to 24 one sized diapers
Accessories -30 sherpa cloth wipes (is this a good number?) -CJs butter diaper rash cream -Country Save laundry detergent (I can buy this locally, I can save on shipping) -Kissaluvs Diaper Lotion Concentrate (I plan on using a spray bottle and dry wipes) - 1 Small or medium wetbag (from the above mentioned friend) -1 Wet bag or pail liner...would it be better to use a pail liner or an XL wetbag for in home use?
I think that sounds great, and I agree with Amie that you may want an extra pail liner. One tip, and this is just my opinion, but I find that having my cloth wipes pre-moistened helps cleaning a poopy butt so much easier! It may be the type of wipes i have work better that way (they are like a wash cloth on one side and smooth cotton on the other). I have a Prince Lionheart wipes warmer that I put the wet wipes in and it works great. Nothing like a warm, wet wipe to get the job done!
I agree an extra pail liner is a nice thing to have. Also, you may want more "until potty training" diapers. My little guy is 7 months and it is not uncommon to have a day where he goes through 12-14 diapers (his norm is 10.) It takes about 3 hours to complete my wash/dry routine...my AIO's take a good 24 hrs to be all the way dry.
We mainly use prefolds and covers. I loved them when he was a newborn. (You have just the right number of covers for runny, newborn poo.) I would suggest you check out a trial program or a sampler pack to see which diapers will work best for your LO and your family before stocking up on the larger diapers.
Thanks for the advice ladies! I ordered another pail liner, and will be ordering a few more OS diapers. My husband said he would actually prefer us to have more diapers and be able to do bigger loads, or wash less frequently. I'm hoping that I can *maybe* make it to the Black-Friday sales and then purchase more, but the baby may need a bigger diaper before then.
For those that use pre-folds or the like, should I get a stay dry material for the newborn stage? Or will it be okay if she has the wet feeling? I have come across some "stay-dry" liners, but wasn't sure if I should get them or not.
My son wore nothing but prefolds for the first 4 months of his life, and we didn't use liners. The wetness didn't seem to bother him a bit, but I've heard some babies don't like feeling wet and will cry. I've heard lots of people cut up thin fleece blankets to make liners, but I bought some from Sweetbottoms Baby Boutique online, I think a pack of 6 were like $4.50, so not expensive if you just want to have some around just in case.
