I recently bought 2 wool covers to go over my sustainablebabyish organic bamboo fleece fitted at night. The babee green worked well for 2 nights but then started being really damp in the morning, and the sprout change cover was damp from the beginning, so I decided to wash them and lanolise them again. This is what I did:
I washed them with by hand using mild wool detergent, then rinsed them thoroughly, before I filled a bucket with lukewarm water, boiled a cup of water and had 1 tablespoon of pure lanolin in the boiling water, let it dissolve and poured it in the bucket. I then put my 2 wool covers in the bucket and let them soak for 1/2 hour, before I sqeezed out the excess water by rolling them in a towel. They were then line dryed. Afterwards they felt a bit sticky, i.e. full of lanolin, as I would get some on my hands from touching them.
Now I have used them over night, but the same thing is happening with both - at the 4 am feeding, after 8 hours in the diaper, the baby feels damp through the onesize, PJ, and a padded wearable blanket. In the morning, after 12 hours in the diaper, the blanket smells like pee.
What am I doing wrong? The sloomb OBF diaper can take a lot of pee and we've never had any leaks using PUL covers! I'm ready to give up on wool which is a shame because I really like the option of having a breathable cover.. Please help!
Cheers, Karianne

hmmmm, are you rotating the wool covers to make sure they are thoroughly drying? Wool is tricky in that way in that it can feel dry even when it is still holding quite a bit of moisture. So, of course if you are thinking it's dry but it is still holding moisture it would stand to reason that after a couple of nights it's going to reach it's maximum capacity quicker. Also, if you live in a humid environment it may actually even take longer than just one day for your wool to fully dry out especially if you have a heavy wetter. Your lanolization process seems spot on so I really can't think of what else it would be. I love my woolies so I hope you get it figured out!

Not sure if it will make a difference, but the first time I lanolised all my cover, I let it sit overnight in the lanolin solution. If that doesn't work Motherease makes a breathable PUL cover.
I have tried rotating my covers (I have two) but it might be that they weren't getting dry enough! Also, the other morning I noticed that the fitted we are using under was completely soaked so I think it had just reached its capacity and the wool got soaked too. We recently started a 12 hour night schedule which means my baby pees a lot more in the same diaper than before - so until I can get a larger size we'll just have to use PUL covers...
