Hi all, I came here hoping some of you might have some insight. I have been battling a huge ammonia issue. I read Autum's posts on ammonia, I've gotten some info on some other sites but nothing seems to work. First of all let me tell you what my routine was and then what my new routine is. Old: sprayed with Bac-Out then in pail until wash, wash every third day, cold rinse, hot wash with 3tbs of Rockin Green Hard Rock on a top loader, two cold rinses.
New: no more Bac-Out, I use Calgon every wash (very hard water in Ohio), wash every other day, warm rinse, cold rinse, hot wash with 2 scoops of Tiny bubbles (told is great on hard water) two cold rinses.
To treat my problem I have stripped with dawn, switched detergents, added a water softener, and lastly I did a 24 soak with RLR then many cold rinses--just last night, yet the first diaper DS peed on had a HUGE ammonia stink! So bad it burns my nose. :(
The only thing left I can think of is to boil my MF inserts, but what do I do with natural fabric with buttons like my Sbish OBFs or my GroVia soakers that have a PUL layer?
I'm so frustrated and confused. I'm "this" close to giving up, please help!
I would strongly suggest trying out a mainstream detergent. You don't have to use it often but every month would help get your diapers really cleaned. I've been using Purex and my diapers have never been better.
