Diaper Rash

I've been CD for about 2 1/2 weeks now...I'm using GMD Prefolds and covers on my newborn. She's developed a diaper rash, which I have been treating with CJs Butter.

I was wondering how long it usually takes to get rid of a diaper rash? I have been treating her rash for about 5 days now.

I'm wondering if she is just getting the rash from having moisture on her skin all of the time? I change her ever time she feeds...even during the night...this works out to be about every 2 1/2 hours...should I be changing more frequently?

I was considering modifying my prefolds, and sewing microfleece on to one side of the prefold. I was wondering if the microfleece will actually keep her dry/dryer, or just make her feel dry...if you understand the difference. Does this seem like a good idea or not?

Edited to add:
My wash routine is currently: Cold wash/no detergent, Hot wash/ 2 tbsp (half scoop) of Country Save, Cold wash/no detergent. I have a super old top loader...from the 80's. Thought I would add this in-case the wash routine may be part of the problem...my diapers seem to be coming out clean.

To Cure Diaper Rash:

* Use a diaper rash cream or ointment preventively. Petroleum ointments are great to use every day as a barrier to protect your baby. Creams with zinc oxide, although can be messy, are also great to use for babies who are prone to diaper rash. Applying cream after each change can help to protect your baby's bottom.

* If your baby has a diaper rash, wash the area with warm water and let it air dry.

Petroleum and zinc oxide creams are not cloth diaper friendly and generally not recommended with cloth diapers as the cream will clog up the pores of the diaper and make it repellent. You can use them if you also use a liner to protect the diaper, although I don't know how to do this with prefolds...

What kind of wipes are you using? Warm water, a baby wash cloth and a few minutes spent air drying at every change might help.

I'm using cloth wipes, and a spray bottle with a few drops of kisslavus diaper lotion potion, some witch hazel, and mostly water. I've began using CJs at every diaper change and that seems to work. She doesn't seem to like being diaperless though and just cries when I try to give her diaper free time. Maybe she's cold...I'm not sure.

Caitlin-You are pretty much following my routine (except we use rock n green) and we've been lucky enough to be rash free. The only other thing I could think of would be to bump up your hot water tank a notch before washing to get a hotter wash and to rinse the diaper before you pail it.
