washing cloth diapers (best cloth soap)

what is the best and cheapest laundry soap to use? i heard ecos free and clear is safe for cloth diapers and it is fairly inexpensive. is this true or should i stick to rockin green or charlies soap? alos i would like to make my own powder soap but i need a safe resipe for soap. any suggestions. thanks friends
