Out of... 1) fels naptha 2) borax 3) arm&hammer washing soda 4) essential oil (orange or tea tree)
Is this safe for my cloth diapers? I do have city water and I would say its hard water. I use it now on all of our laundry. Just got all the stuff I need to start cloth diapering. Haven't washed any thing yet!
I make my own as well and haven't had a problem yet. I used dr bronnors vegan soap borax washing soda oxy clean and half a bottle of downy unstoppable scent boosters (bc B doesn't have an issue with this additive) My diapers come out smelling wonderful! LOVE it.
I've heard it both ways with fels naptha. Some people swear by it, some people believe it works against your diapers overtime. In my opinion if its really important to you, try looking into organic or vegan soap bars at least you know they're free of harsh additives. Whole foods has an array of soaps you can choose from, cost is a bit ok. I've had huge luck at locating a huge variety of the Dr Bronnors soap at Wegmans for only $2.50 a bar! That beat my local shoprite which had them for sale at $4.75 a bar! I think target was slightly under that price at a whopping $4.99
i have heard that homemade detergents are not a great choice for cloth diapers, especially given the amount of borax used. the following is from pinstripesandpolkadots.com recently asked questions page: "The problem with the homemade washing mixture is....[that the] soap reacts poorly in hard water conditions and creates a scum or film that can be left on the clothing. The Borax and the Washing Soda are useful as water softeners to reduce the forming of soap scum however, they can form their own precipitates in hard water that can be left on the clothing or washing machine and cause difficulties. The borax can also be abrasive to fabrics in certain situations and is often considered harsher than necessary for washing.
So unless you are washing completely natural fiber diapers in completely and naturally soft water, using a homemade washing mixture will probably cause you more diapering headaches than its worth."
That's good to know. So does anyone have any suggestions for a good but reasonable prices cd soap. I've heard of ecos free and clear what are your thoughts
