I am new to CDing & use Best Bottoms microfiber inserts & covers. Okay...so my son had a severe rash from ammonia in his urine from the diapers, so I stripped them using Rock'n'green as the store owner who sold them told me to do. It was not successful so I rinsed (15 rinse cycles), 3 of which were hot. This helped some for one time...no more rashes, but still ammonia smell when he wet his diaper. I was getting desperate, so I bleached them & used Tide Free n clear. They seemed to come out smelling fresh & clean....no rash on my son thankfully, but the diapers again smelled like ammonia & barnyard! I am getting desperate to get these things to work. I have to use disposables when they don't & they are so costly, but with the amount of water we're using to wash these diapers, right now there is little if any savings. We do have hard water, however we have a water softener. I use a top loader washing machine. HELP!!

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and new to cd. I just ordered my first set of diapers and detergent and I need help with prepping them. I've seen many short messages about prepping but I'm looking for step by step specifics! How many times do you recommend washing them to prep. Do I wash them the same way each time that I would if they were soiled? Including pre-wash, detergent each time, etc.? Do I dry them between each washing? I searched the website but couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks so much!!

Kasie

Hi all,

I am seriously considering cloth diapering and am just in the midst of doing research. Right now, I make my own detergent with borax, washing soda, and a bar of ivory soap. Can I use that on cloth diapers?

Thanks,
Jen

The last 2 times my son pooped (still all breastfed, so it's not quite every day), those diapers came out of the wash stinky and left a stain. I'm so confused because that's never happened before, they have always washed out no problem! The first one sat for 2 days before washing (he pooped literally the next diaper after putting them in the wash....). The 2nd one I washed the next morning.

We have fairly soft water and I use a frontloader with Rockin' Green detergent. I tried a wash where I added more and then ran them through again, but that didn't work. Ideas?

Danielle is a new-ish cloth diaper parent and asked several cloth diaper bloggers what their current detergent of choice is. Right now mine is Tide or Dropps. Both get me a really good clean. But there are so many great options out there! I have Country Save as my back up and of course Bac-out is always used.

http://blogs.babble.com/toddler-times/2012/02/27/fight-the-funk-favorite-detergents-for-washing-cloth-diapers/
