Bumkin Cover users???
I use mainly thirsties covers and prefolds. I find them to be so much easier than my AIO's. Which aspects are you curious about?

Snappi Fail
Thank you for reminding me I have pins. I might try those when/if I feel brave enough to not poke a baby who likes to roll around during diaper changes.

Quick Question about Washing
I sometimes wash every third or forth day if we've been out of the house a lot. (We use disposables when not at home.) Besides, a stinkier pail I haven't noticed any issues. As long as you are planning on rinsing the dirty diapers, I don&…

Cloth Diapering in Ohio
I use Rockin Green Classic Rock and I get it from Amazon. I went out to Snuggle Hugs in Berea the first time, but it costs about $2 more there.

Fitteds
A fitted is a cloth diaper that is absorbent, but still requires a waterproof cover. Most are fitted around the leg and waist openings so no folding is required. Many tend to snap, so no snappi, pins, boingo, etc. are required. I have found there…

All in One Question
For the most part AIO's are good to go right after the first wash for normal daytime use (a change at least every two hours with a newborn.) The absorbent and waterproof parts are sewed together. Many one size AIO's have a pocket where yo…

Newborn CDing
I would check Craigslist or diaperswapper for 2nd hand newborn diapers. I hear raves about the new kissaluvs. You might want to look into newborn diaper rental too http://allaboutclothdiapers.com/a-directory-of-newborn-cloth-diaper-rental-programs/…

36 prefolds, home made covers and Tide... good enough to start?
I've mainly used GMD prefolds (and 2 econobums), so I can't speak for the ones you are going to purchase, but trifolding did not work at all for us when my son was a newborn. (It was such a failure I have been scared to try it again after…

help.going cloth and this is my first child
We use GMD prefolds and they run between $30 and $40/dozen depending on the size. You need at least 2 dozen of a size, but 3 dozen gives us the perfect amount of breathing room. (It was not unheard of to use 16+ diapers in one day.) When my guy w…

Stinky poop stains on Flip covers
I would suggest you rinse before you dry pail. You might also want to use an enzyme cleaner like biokleen or nature's remedy in your cold soak/rinse. (Check to make sure this doesn't void your warranty first.) This phase of poop doesn…

Diaper Rash
Caitlin-You are pretty much following my routine (except we use rock n green) and we've been lucky enough to be rash free. The only other thing I could think of would be to bump up your hot water tank a notch before washing to get a hotter wash…

If you are trying to save money (and who isn't these days) don't buy microfleece inserts. You pick up some microfleece from JoAnn's or Walmart and cut it to the size you need, or repurpose a microfleece blanket or rags. The colors…

Leaking after 2 weeks - help!
How is your baby sleeping? Back? Tummy? Side? I put my LO on his back but he rolls to his side or tummy during the night. If he's in an AIO he will leak along the top. Also, if you have a boy you might want to make sure he is pointed down, not…

What kind of wipes are you using? Warm water, a baby wash cloth and a few minutes spent air drying at every change might help.

If you are worried about wetness against the skin you can always add a microfleece liner or insert. Microfleece draws wetness away from the skin. We used CJ's BUTTer after every dirty diaper and haven't had a rash ever (nearly 9 months.)…

I only used prefolds and covers so I'm a bit biased...Newborn poo is runny, especially if you BF. You will be less likely to use an AI2, or a cover, multiple times. We used 14-16 diapers a day taking into account the changes where my little …

What else do I need?
Inserts-it all depends on your baby as to when you need them. Some are super soakers, some don't sleep in huge stretches, some have predictable nap schedules early on. The 4.0 are OS. You will need to use snaps to adjust the rise/fit of th…

help: new to cloth and undecided
I would slowly build your stash to see what you (and your baby) like. Many OS diapers won't fit properly until the baby is older, plus they might be a pain to fold down for the umbilical cord. Newborns will go through a lot of diapers a day--…

You're right IrishMama. You'd have to use a liner if you use a cream with zinc oxide with a CD. I think the recommendation for that cream came from a person with a vested interest in the sale of the cream and not

Does My kiddo just have stinky pee
I rinse out my diapers after every change and it seems to help with the ammonia smell. I also try to rock a soak every month or so if needed. A second extra rinse might help, too, or just do another short cold water wash cycle.

Diaper Stash...Thoughts?
I agree an extra pail liner is a nice thing to have. Also, you may want more "until potty training" diapers. My little guy is 7 months and it is not uncommon to have a day where he goes through 12-14 diapers (his norm is 10.) It takes a…

Please Help! New to cloth and having Ammonia problems
Do you get the ammonia smell only in the morning or all the time? I think the former is sorta normal, but the latter means there is a bigger issue. Also, you might try rinsing the diapers with water before you toss them in the pail--it seemed to h…
