Cloth Diaper Extras, How-to

Amber of has created some great how-to videos on YouTube recently. This video shows you how to use the blind method of sewing in elastic in a fitted cloth diaper. Her sewing machine leaves me speechless. It looks like it can sew the elastic by itself! But I assure you that this can be done on even my $100 machine.

i have recently started cloth and love it so far, but i really want to make my own. can this type of diaper be done a regular sewing machine (is an edge finishing stitch sufficient) or do i really need a serger? anyone experienced mamas have any advice to offer?

Hi, Tiffany. There are patterns that do not require a serger, just need a straight stitch and the occassional zig-zag. For practice you can try the finishing stitch but I’m not sure it will hold up in the long run. All this coming from a mama who only knows how to do a straight stitch that isn’t very straight :P

This is the first time I have sewed in 15 years and I am enjoying it! I can’t wait to try fitteds and some nght time dipes next. Amber has great tutorials and products, I can’t wait to see my son in his new diapers!
