How To Sew In The Elastic For Cloth Diapers

Amber of Diaperkits.com has created some great how-to videos on YouTube recently. This video shows you how to use the blind method of sewing in elastic in a fitted cloth diaper. Her sewing machine leaves me speechless. It looks like it can sew the elastic by itself! But I assure you that this can be done on even my $100 machine.

I have recently purchased and started sewing the all in one kit from Diaperkit.com and am loving how simple the instructions are and how cute the diapers are trning out. This is the first time I have sewed in 15 years and I am enjoying it! I can’t wait to try fitteds and some nght time dipes next. Amber has great tutorials and products, I can’t wait to see my son in his new diapers!

i have recently started cloth and love it so far, but i really want to make my own. can this type of diaper be done a regular sewing machine (is an edge finishing stitch sufficient) or do i really need a serger? anyone experienced mamas have any advice to offer?

Hi, Tiffany. There are patterns that do not require a serger, just need a straight stitch and the occassional zig-zag. For practice you can try the finishing stitch but I’m not sure it will hold up in the long run. All this coming from a mama who only knows how to do a straight stitch that isn’t very straight :P
