I’ve been through many phases since beginning this cloth diaper journey in 2005. Prefolds and covers, to pockets, to All In Ones, to fitteds and wool, back to Pockets, then All In Twos (which is where I’m at now).
I always have fitteds on hand for backup, never use prefolds and don’t really enjoy stuffing pockets.
But, sometimes a cloth diaper has a feature that you simply can’t resist…no matter what system it is.
Rumparooz pocket cloth diapers have one of those perfect features. True, “ain’t-nothing-getting-past-these-walls” gussets. No other diaper comes close to Julie’s design.
The inside is lovingly referred to as the “Poop Scoop”. That is exactly what it is though. It’s contoured and conjures up images of an ice cream scoop. What comes out of baby stays in the diaper. What a novel idea!
After trying out the new G2 design I told Julie I took many pictures trying to get a tasteful shot of how well the Poop Scoop holds in poop. I love her reply, “dont be shy – I get LOTS of *dirty* pictures in my inbox from satisfied mommys 
lol.”
All this chatter, where’s the review?
I tested out an Velcro G2. Upon first look I thought “no way will I like these tabs.” But after using it I realized that, although they seem stiff, they will hold up a lot better than other aplix tabs (bumgenius for example).
The stretchy tabs have been improved to not be so stretchy. I can get a perfect fit around Sterling’s waist and from the following video, so can my 7yr old daughter Haley.
Rumparooz G2 is a one-sized pocket cloth diaper. I began using it on Sterling at about 13ish pounds. Because every child insists on being vastly different than the others, Sterling has an extremely long rise. (I compare this to Paisley who has the world’s shortest rise and could where a bumgenuis organic aio on the smallest snap at 2.)
Sterling wears his Rumparooz on the medium setting although I am thinking I need to move to the large setting. Don’t let Sterling’s long rise fool you. The Rumparooz G2 is in fact a one-sized diaper. The majority of children will easily wear this diaper from birth to potty training.
Besides the Poop Scoop, my other favorite feature is the laundry tab. I know, silly. But, I like how it isn’t a piece of velcro but a nice soft piece of material. No rubbing on baby. And they stay put in the washing machine.
I have mentioned in previous posts that I do NOT desire to pull out inserts. Therefore, I toss the diaper w/insert into the washer hoping it will come out. After many washes, the insert has come out every time (I have a top loader).
Included with every Rumparooz G2 purchase comes a 6r soaker. The 6r is a microfiber soaker that adjusts to many sizes and absorbencies (6 different combos!). I have not used the Rumparooz at night but with extended day use have not had any wicking or leaks.
The Rumparooz I have is a beautiful aqua but the prints Julie has (and will have) are amazing! I love that her prints are different than the popular prints I see floating around. Overall, I highly recommend the Rumparooz G2. I haven’t had any issues with it that I can put in the “con” category.
Although I am not a lover of microfiber for the long run (like 1+ yr), it is a super absorber and trimmer than other comparable absorbency materials. I suggest replacing microfiber inserts every year at the most and avoid the stink and leaking issues that can occur.
Rumparooz cloth diapers, like Gro Baby, are produced in China. These WAHMs have worked very, very hard to ensure that their production facilities in China are FAIR, CLEAN, and HAPPY! By sending production overseas they are able to bring excellent cloth diapers to you at an affordable price, at the same time allowing their family to make an income.
In the near future I will be introducing you to lil’ Joey. This is the cloth diaper that is going to take over as the leader in newborn cloth diapering! If only I had these when Sterling was born!!

I have 1 rumparooz and I LOVE it. It is my go-to night time diaper (for my 8 month old)with both inserts snapped together. She is also on the largest setting because her rise is incredibly long but she only weighs about 18 pounds!
I LOVE that your daughter can do this diaper! Although with a mama like you she could probably do them all. I can’t seem to find the maximum measurements for this diaper, does anyone know? My son is HUGE, 40 lbs and 38″ tall and just turned two. His waist is 26″ and his thigh is 16″. I cannot find a diaper that fits this kid!! Do you think this might fit him, or have any other suggestions? Thank you!
Wow, LesLee! He is a big boy! I don’t know that I’ve seen a diaper with a size range that goes to 40lbs. I’ll measure my rumparooz and see how it stretches.

This is the ONLY cloth diaper I have used for my 2 1/2 month old. I bought 5 to start, when he was a month old, and tried them for several days. After a couple, easy, washes I was sold! I bought 20 more and have not regretted the decision once. Prior to these I was using disposables, *gasp*, and was getting blow outs straight up the back on a daily basis! Since switching I have not had a single one.
Yeah, Melissa! We too had TONS of blowouts with our first child in sposies. None since using cloth diapers!

My daughter (2 3/4, FINALLY beginning to accept the potty) weighs 48 pounds. I haven’t measured her lately, but when we started cloth at 2 her waist was 26″ and thighs were 18″ (she hasn’t really gotten any wider, just taller) My parents use Pampers size 7 on her. I had to stop diaper shopping with just enough for 2 days for financial reasons, so I haven’t been able to try all the WAHMs; I’ve never seen one big enough. She does wear FuzziBunz large & XL (XL is better, but hard to find), and Happy Heinys XL & XXL (XXL at night for extra stuffing room). We have 1 SnapEZ that I think is XL; they make pockets in youth & adult sizes, too, but they are expensive new.
These are my faves. I love love these diapers, and the new prints are very cute considering there are finally some nice BOY prints!! I reach for these constantly in my stash over everything else!!

Sounds like our kiddos are about the same size. One of my very favorites is the one Piddle Poddle toddler fitted that I have with a Thirsties cover. I was just hoping to find another diaper or two before he PLs. We use mostly FBs and some Haute Pockets that I bought about a year and a half ago, the elastic is shot so it fits him perfectly!

These diapers are the BEST. I have quite a few different cloth dipaers but these are by far my favorite. The “poop scoop” is fantastic and they are very easy to stuff, I find they are easier to stuff than bum genius 3.0 and the pocket opening stays down way better.I am finding the bum genius pocket doesnt stay down and its frusrating. I will forsure be buying more rumparooz!!

Ok, so after reading this review, I thought I couldn't go wrong with a Rumparooz. Turns out, I'm either Rumparooz retarded or this diaper just does not fit my baby.
I love how it looks and the soft feel. The stuffers look basically just like the ones I have for my BG 3.0…. Yet somehow, I can't get this thing to work right. It either gaps at the waist or it gets all scrunched when I try to tighten it. I've tried all the snap settings for the rise, the waist, you name it. Almost every time she wears it, she leaks, and the insert is not soaked by any means. I think maybe it has to do with the fleece inside going all the way to the top? My BG liner doesn't go all the way up and I never have that problem. I dunno…. anyone else have this issue? I'm thinking of trying to trade it away for a BG or other pocket.
where do the leaks occur? have you tried a different a different insert?
Usually, it leaks out of the top near the wings. I will try some other inserts, maybe a prefold.
Ok, tried twice more, this time with a prefold as the insert, since she does very well in prefolds most of the time. First time, no problems. She was fairly wet when I changed her, no leaking. Second time, I had just put the diaper on her and started nursing. By the time she finished nursing, her pj's were wet, I was wet, and the boppy was wet. The diaper had leaked out the leg. Now the leg seems to fit pretty snugly, there doesn't seem to be any gaps or problems with the elastic. The prefold was only slightly wet. I simply can't figure it out… but I'm pretty done with this diaper. <sigh>
I am newly pregnant and am researching cloth diapers. The rumparooz G2 design seems like a great option for infant to potty training. How many diapers would you recommend that a new mom purchase? I see above that Melissa bought 25. Is that a good amount? I am totally new to all this, so I could use any advice you can offer.
@Ashleigh I personally would not purchase 25 cloth diapers without ever trying it or having any cloth diaper experience. My advice would be to buy newborn sized diapers then move into the one-sized at about 12lbs (the weight at which many nb diapers are limited). Rumparooz recently released their Lil’ Joey. I have not tried it but it looks awesome. Other nb diapers that are worth the investment for the short term use: Kissaluvs size 0, Mutts (www.muttaqinbaby.com), xs sustainablebabyish bamboo fitteds…all of these are fitteds and require a cover. Thirsties xs and proraps are my favorites. hth! Rumparooz G2 is a fantastic one-sized pocket diaper. You might check out http://www.diaperswappers.com for a used one. That way you can look at it and see if it is what you want.
I LOVE this diaper! It is hands down my absolute favorite… and I’ve tried a LOT of different ones! :0) I love the prints, and even though I have a girl, I just couldn’t resist the boyish ones too (the firetrucks and the monsters!). I am astounded at how well this diaper contains everything!
I have 7, and I notice that there are 2 ways the tabs are done. On some of my diapers the tabs are the same material as the whole diaper, but on others they are a different piece of stretchy material sewn on. The ones with the different stretchy material have wicked a couple of times after (12-14 hour) overnight use (belly sleeping heavy wetting girl), but the ones that are one continuous piece have never wicked. And none of them have ever leaked!
Does anyone know were can I find these Rumparoos diapers? I can only find the inserts?
I purchased the rumparooz for my son – who is now 4 months old. We seem to go off and on with leaking problems – I currently have it set with a double soaker. Sometimes the soaker is soaked other times it’s hardly damp and he’s leaked onto his clothing. He gets changed every 3 hours. The store in which I purchased them mentioned “stripping” them with oxyclean but this had not resolved the problem. If anyone has any suggestions I’m all ears. And I’m using a small amount of detergent with out any enyzmes, softners etc. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
25 weeks pregnant and never considered anything besides disposables, after a few conversations with some experienced parents I’m thinking cloth is the way to go. the rumparooz seem to be one of the highest rated but I’m trying to figure out how many (assuming the trial-run 1 works out) should I have on hand? also, the 6r soaker, do you have to use it? how do you know which one to use and when? can you use cloth diapers on newborns with the infamous tar-poop or do you wait a few weeks? and one last thing, what about travelling? I don’t want to ask my mil if I can use her machine for a load of poopy diapers, do you girls use disposables when travelling? sorry for all the nutty questions, cloth diapers are a brave new world for me and I’m trying to wrap my head around the logistics, any tips would help
1) rumparooz are excellent cloth diapers
ask all you need to know 
2) for one child I would have at least 12 on hand
3) yes you have to use an insert because it’s a pocket and doesn’t have an absorbent layer
4) i always use the 6r soaker snapped together on the “medium doubler” setting
5) i have cloth diapered 2 newborns so far. the tar poop washes off but leaves stains. if you are concerned about stains you can use a fleece liner
6) i travel with cloth diapers, put them in a wet bag and if necessary wash them if necessary.
7) i don’t think that most people would have a problem with you using their washer. i would ask before assuming you’ll need to use disposables.
i have a 2 month old and ive just ordered 4 of theses plus 5 extra liners i hope i like them every review ive read has been great especially this one! i wanted to do cloth with my other daughter but didnt have the funds so hopefully i love these as much as everyone else does! i want off of disposables!

Lovely blog. I have been doing a diaper service but will now be going abroad for 5 months, and am looking to buy diapers to take with me for my 12lb 6 week old boy.
Would you recommend the aplix or the snap for the rumparooz G2?
I prefer the snaps on rumparooz. The aplix is a little rough to me and overall snaps seem to hold up better.
Also, is it easier to wash poop stains off fleece as a compared to cotton? I bought inserts to double up my prefolds which had a microfleece lining, and I faintly remember them washing off easier. Do any of the pocket diapers have fleece as a lining?
most pocket diapers have a fleece or microchamois (similar to microfleece) inner. i actually think it’s easier to get poop off the organic cotton of my bum genius organic aio but you get more stains with cotton.
I LOVE these diapers, the inner gusset is such a great invention, it mimics disposables and so far I/we’ve never had a leak, now going through 2 kids. My favorite print is the Mady, unfortunately the only place that still carries it (and a few other discontinued prints) is Blue Zoo Baby Boutique.
I’ll be sad when my daughter is potty trained and won’t be wearing them…maybe by then they’ll come up with a training pant.

I used Rumparooz diapers for four months, and loved them. Then the coating on the PUL separated from the polyester, and cracked, making my perfect diapers completely worthless. Not one diaper. ALL of my diapers. I have to replace my entire stash of diapers after four months. They didn’t ever even pay for themselves, disposables would have been cheaper. I have been reading other reviews, and saw others that had the same problem. Great diaper. POOR QUALITY of material.
Melissa, I highly encourage you to contact Rumparooz. Despite the fact that they make you jump through hoops for their mistakes they will replace them.
I am considering buying the 24 pack from diaperjunction.com @ 10% off – I know i should probably buy a few different brands, but i feel that these would be great, plus diaperjunction is extending their 30 day return policy past my due date (October 5th). I was considering buying 12 of the rumparooz and 12 of the bumgenius4.0 but have read that you have to wash them differently – bumgenius says to use additive and enzyme free detergents, while rump a rooz says to use enzyme detergent like tide or seventh generation. Do you know if i would have to wash these separately? Should i go for the 24 pack? They come out to roughly $19.80 a diaper that way!
I wouldn’t do it. You have no idea of knowing if your baby will have sensitivities to suedecloth (bum genius) or microchamois (rumparooz). You will have time to buy them when your baby arrives. For the newborn stage I always recommend a newborn sized diaper anyways. Check out the newborn diaper rental program at Sweetbottoms Baby Boutique (they have a banner in the upper right of my blog).

Are babies that sensitive to suedecloth or microchamois? I live in Switzerland (where the prices of both cloth and disposables are so extortionate, it’ll make even gold-plated diapers seem cheap), and I was thinking about having my parents bring over the 25-pack of Rumparooz just to get me started. Are the small setting of the Rumparooz not good enough for newborns? If I were to get a newborn nappy, how many would you recommend to get?
We don’t have diaper rental here, so I’m kind of at a bit of a loss as to what to do. I don’t really want to spend upwards of $150/week on disposables while waiting for diapers to fit, nor do I really want to spend tons of money on newborn diapers or finding the perfect diaper (diaper + shipping + customs duty is also insane).
As you can tell, I’m at a bit of a conundrum. Do certain diapers really fit certain babies a whole lot better than others? Everyone I know loves these diapers, so I’m really just kind of wondering if dear ol’ Mom and Dad should bring a bunch over in December when the baby is due. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
In your situation I would definitely have your parents bring you some cloth diapers. Rumparooz, Bum Genius, Fuzzi Bunz those are brands that most people love and work with most babies. So they would be your safest choice. Rumparooz have the amazing gusset that holds everything in. Perhaps your parents could bring you a bit of all of them. Banana Peels Diapers have them all as do the retailers in the upper right of the blog. The newborn stage is tricky. One size diapers just don’t work well with a newborn (unless you have a 9+lb baby). Most one-sized diapers don’t start fitting well until 12lbs, Rumparooz claim they fit earlier. Another excellent option is Softbums. These do fit great on newborns except for the umbilical area. Some moms use Softbums even with the umbilical stump still on. In order of best choices for your situation, in my best opinion: 1) Softbums 2) Rumparooz 3) Bum Genius 4) Fuzzi Bunz.
If you want something to tide you over until your baby is big enough for the one-sized, I’d get some prefolds and newborn sized prorap covers.
